Since a big update earlier this year sat nav has been playing up, when travelling the arrow is often in fields parallel to road sometimes at distance, I also get spurious alarms telling me to turn right or left when no turnings exist. It also frequently loses the plot and loses itself. Garmin tech support walked me through various checks and finally I carried out a master reset. I have the latest Garmin Express installed and latest updates on the unit. Any suggestions on how to sort the problem would be appreciated, naturally it’s out of warranty at 2 years old.

I'd have expected a master reset to have cured this. Are you sure it happened correctly? If so you would have seen a warning that you were going to delete all user data. If you didn't see that then I'd try it again.

Strange then that you're still having issues, I'd call Garmin again.

Just to rule out the obvious .....

.... you haven't just put this into a different vehicle with one of these heated windscreens ?

Not all heated screens cause this, but some do.

I'm aware some Tomtom devices act up when placed next to a dash cam on the windscreen......

Good point. I bought a cheap dash cam that did that to my Garmin. I now have a different one that doesn't affect it.

Thanks for the input guys, we did change our motorhome last year so will try the sat nav in the car tomorrow once home. I do have a upper end model Nextbase dashcam mounted at the top centre of the windscreen 3 foot above the Garmin so will experiment unplugging it when next travelling and see what happens.

My Nextbase 380GW is behind the rear view mirror on the passengers side.

My Garmin 2699 is bottom right corner and doesn't seem to have any interference issues.

An update, transferred the Garmin to our car today, 120 miles covered, motorway, dual carriageways and minor rural roads, it was flawless so a big thank you for that suggestion. Now to try and find what is causing it to malfunction when in the motorhome.

Seem to have it sussed, I have a gps speedo mounted very close to the Garmin someone suggested this may be causing the problem so have moved the speedo to rh side of dash so it’s 2 feet away or more and all has worked perfectly on a 50 mile trip today. So again thank you guys for your suggestions much appreciated. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

That's interesting that what sounds like an inbound only GPS device should interfere with the Garmin.

Wonder what the GPS device is emitting ? Does GPS require a 2 way signal ?

Many devices, mainly cheap ones, emit all sorts of spurious signals from their electronics. It's that that can cause interference with other devices close by.

Also bear in mind that the signal level from the sats, which are about 11,000 miles away, is really tiny, so wouldn't take a lot of interference at about the right frequency to goose it altogether.
