And this for those with TT devices

That's better/clearer, thanks

We will stop to sell maps and services for devices with an internal memory of 2GB or less.

It has become clear that some of our older-generation navigation devices do not have enough memory to accommodate the latest available maps and software updates.

WTF are SD/MicroSD card slots for then?
WTF are more & more maps being broken down into smaller regional zones then?

Nope, me neither!

Got to agree.

In addition, some PNDs with the same overall model name but different 2 letter prefix are on the list, yet some are still supported. Sums up the issue with model numbering being a mess and since these are EOL, this has been going on for a long time. No wonder people are confused.....

Edit: corrected typo

Well that's me finished with TomTom after October 2018 when my Live services expires on my trusty GO820.

I shall be looking at a Garmin as a replacement nearer the time but at least I can mull over the options rather than being forced into a quick decision.

Thanks TomTom, 16th January being my Birthday; some present huh! I've been a TomTom user since the days of pocket computers running TomTom software and have progressed through pnd devices 720, 730 and 1005. Where to now?
Actually, having put mine to good use, usually 7-8 hours a day, it may not be as bad as it sounds because I am thinking of retiring later this year and will then only use it very occasionally, maybe 2-3 times a year, and my live services subscription is valid until June 2019.

Just as an aside, I noticed that the list of affected devices mentions 1005 (SF SB), whereas my serial number starts ST. Does this mean mine may still be updateable?

ST is the LIVE 1005 / Camper & Caravan, 8GB + micro-SDHC, MyDrive Connect NAV3 so wont be effected (yet)

Easy check is input your first two digits against a map here https://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/sat-nav/maps-services/shop/travel-map/united-kingdom-ireland/

my trusty old 750 Live is feeling quite upset at the rejection by TT. However as the replaced battery only runs for about 15 minutes it is slowing down. Still a good satnav with live services. Better than the one on my BMW. Will probably retire it late 2019 and use an iphone for PGPS speed cameras.

... and they say technology improves (value engineering)

Mine starts with ST and if i try to renew live services it says my device is not compatible, no real problem as i have no intention of renewing it more just an exercise to see what the staus was. Trouble is i'm still none the wiser.

Yet another cockup by TT then. ST does allow you (quite correctly) to still buy new maps but won't allow you to buy Live Services!!

Just to be bloody minded, why not call customer "support" and see what they say...and let us know too:-

Interesting that TomTom don't seem to understand how it works, this is from their Twitter account today:

I don't know what you mean by "will continue to support…." Your own customer support has confirmed that I will receive no further map updates. You define lifetime on your website https://us.support.tomtom.com/app/content/id/9/page/4/locale/en_US …, but don't mention it, eg, in Amazon listings.

Hi Thomas, you will no longer be able to purchase new maps or services, but if the maps installed on your device are lifetime map updates, you will be able to receive updates. Best, TT Team

There is another unspoken thought behind TomTom's actions. The Nav2/3 device are MSDOS based using a FAT file format and are prone to hacking to install unpaid for maps. An activity I personally cannot condone and denigrate completely.

Tomtom's response has been to move to a more secure Linux based operating system which would appear to resolve the hacking issues. That approach makes commercial sense. However they removed so many useful features that the phrase "chucking the baby out with the bath water" seems to apply.

I called Tomtom support as I have live 1005 model ST.
I need to update my live services soon.
The web site said NO.
I was told it was a 'glitch' they were working to fix, but it may take a long time.
How many years they did not know.............. Rolling Eyes

My Go940 wouldn’t let me renew Live Servies despite not being on the EoL list so based on your 1005 ST issue, I wonder if their online store is having issues filtering which sub-sets of models can renew and which are EoL.
