Still saying I'm current on SW V8.1 with 2017 V8.0 Maps!

Your Garmin MAP PILOT SD card is up to date.

2017 c200 Audio 20 SW Ver 9 Maps Ver 9 Previously worked on Ver 5 & 5 Maps

Hello All, I have been following this subject for a year or so, all the suggestions and fixes are relevant, it seems to me that they are in the wrong order. Click on the subject line

https://www.pocketnavigation.de/pois/garmin-map-pilot-mercedes-blitzer/

or go to the German Site, Use Google Chrome and you should get a translate page option. I have used this site and it works fine for me. The database is PoiBase and you download the camera locations to your computer in a file, then copy and paste the file into the Garmin SD card POI folder; The instructions to remove Chinese characters is all there, There is a subscription for the database and it does work. There is a help by email line and Tobias is very knowledgeable. Good Luck
Chris.

Just a heads up. I was updating my SD Card today and the software and maps updated to v10.0 - the maps are a 17Gb d/l. I've had the card registered since May so it looks like maps and software are being updated regardless of timeline (unless it's a fluke!)

Now to try and get the PGPSW data installed ;)

same here.

I just bought a V10 maps SD card from eBay, and it almost works fine.

i.e. the maps are fine, indeed updated to V10 (2018), although the content says "assembled 18th August 2017"

The problem is that with the new SD card in, I've lost my TomTom traffic: "no subscription".

If I put my original V8.0 maps card back in, the traffic sub returns (expiry Aug 2020), so presumably there's a traffic licence file on the old SD card that I need to transfer to the new.

Unfortunately, it's not clear which file(s) that might be. there's a traffic provider XML file, but it's identical across the cards.

Would anyone know how to move my traffic sub to the new SD card?

I'm not trying to scam anything here: I do have a valid 3-year traffic sub included with the car (bought Aug last year).

I can't imagine the dealership will want to help, given I didn't pay their silly prices for a new maps SD card (anyone know how much they charge?)

The firm that sold the card doesn't know anything about the traffic sub, sadly.

thanks very much indeed.

Traffic is probably 'locked' to the SD card. The S in SD stands for Secure, and things can be done on it that the normal used can't access such as its serial number which will obviously be different. Or a licence file in the 'secure' area?

Thanks; yes, could be.

I can't see any reason for all that nonsense for the traffic sub: if the licence key were coded to the vehicle's nav unit serial/id, then it could be written as a plain file, and would be of no use to anyone else, and you'd be able to copy it to a new map card without a problem.

It claims to be genuine, but you're right, it could be.

Why should I be held to ransom to pay MB prices?

for a few hundred I can buy a TomTom GPS with lifetime maps and traffic.

Yet for an expensive car, after 6 months from new I'm already two versions out for maps.

If you're going to talk ripping-off, I know where we should start.

If someone is selling maps much below the manufacturers rip off price, then you can be 99.9% sure that it's a pirated copy, regardless of what the supplier says. If they are genuine maps, then why does the seller know nothing about traffic.
Car manufacturers rip off punters over things like map updates because they can.

So the moral is, if you buy cheap pirate maps, don't complain because they don't 100% work. You have saved yourself a bunch of money, so either live with it or pay the full price. Very Happy

Well, that's not quite true. e.g. Amazon (proper, not Marketplace) sell (or used to sell, since I bought one) Garmin SD map cards, for outdoor handheld GPS, much cheaper than Garmin sell them, and these are proper legit warranty pieces. And these SD cards are also locked to the device on first activation, just like the MB ones. So in general, cheaper doesn't necessarily mean pirate.

but yes, in this case I'm sure you're right. Although I don't know how much MB charge for a map upgrade (does anyone here?) for Audio 20. But eBay isn't Amazon, and I'm sure you're right.

I wasn't complaining [at least, not initially Smile], just asking if anyone knew how to do it, that's all.

Thanks for the comments, regardless Smile

As I said before, it's probably something to do with the S of SD card. I expect that the Traffic is probably 'locked' to the original card (as would the maps likely be). The hacker has presumably overcome the security on the maps but hasn't hacked the traffic facility.
