I am doing a journey tomorrow morning which is a re-run of one I took a few weeks ago. If it does the same as the first time, I shall stop the car and take several pictures and post them on here.

I travelled the route yesterday and have taken a few pics of my unit.
The common-sense route is 8.3 miles taking 16 minutes. The route it wanted me to take would have taken me off the A476 then along a single track road to join the B4306 then on to the destination the distance reducing to 7.9 miles but the time increasing to 18 minutes – BUT my unit is set for fastest route – work that out!!! About a quarter of a mile further along the A476 from where it wants me to turn off, it naturally joins the B4306 anyway. I took this picture just before the junction https://imgur.com/ieahW8n
Now, I moved on only about 20 yards beyond the turn off and expected the unit to ask me to turn around but it didn’t and recalculated on to the common sense route even though it was still shorter if I had turned back. See this picture https://imgur.com/yvHy6To
*************************************************************
A regular journey I take is on the B4309 road from Carmarthen to Llanelli and heading for SA14 8QA. I am always routed off the main road on to the same unclassified road here https://imgur.com/tyqcpgE . I have never travelled this road in the past whilst using a sat-nav so why does it insist I do? Also, when I travel in the opposite direction, from SA14 8QA to, lets say post code SA15 5YD, it again routed me on the same u/c road.
********************************************************8****
The unit is obsessed with u/c road routing!
How long does it take for a unit to ‘learn’ preferred routes? It’s been some three weeks and 2500 miles since I did a master reset. I would have thought it had taken the hint by now.

Simple answer. Block the road on the Garmin.
I think that all these anecdotal examples are a total waste of time and forum space, as we can all find examples of it and it doesn't really help anyone else either.
Do something positive about it and put in a map correction to HERE or tell Garmin directly that their routeing is crap on occasions pointing out where.
It will probably make not the slightest difference, so we should either put up or stop bleating about it.
There have been similar threads for years about satnav routeing, and no one has ever come back and said they have 'fixed' it, so it's unlikely that they will in the future unless enough people complain to them directly.
Bear in mind that the few people here complaining on forum are a tiny, tiny proportion of users.

i made a slight change on my device to see about routing and picking correct way

the change decided to tell me to cover of the motorway a lot sooner than usual, to go on a route that has traffic issues (even shows there is a delay on the route it has picked) and traffic lights every so many yards. staying on the motorway and it finally gives me the junction i would usually come off, displaying no traffic delays and it being actually faster than the route it actually choose

Ah, an experienced TomTom user! Rolling Eyes Laughing

The PGPSW forum is a great place for users to help each other but is there an official forum where you can interact with Garmin people and tell them of problems with the SatNav, a bit like the TomTom forums but where the problems and issues are actually acknowledged and fixed in new versions?

Regards,

Yes, I agree Robert, but the constant pointing out silly routeing is a bit pointless here. Shocked

And I agree with you too M, we all know that in the UK and possibly Europe that Garmin has some silly routing - repeating that fact here won't make any difference - we have to tell Garmin so that they have a chance to put it right.

So I was only asking if there was a Garmin forum that we could make the approbate noises in so that they (Garmin) might hopefully fix it. Thumbs Up

Regards,

If you look at the various Garmin forums they cover all manner of Garmin products except for the automotive PND's.

Are they scared ?

Yes, that's what I found - I thought that there might have been be a separate forum for automotive PNDs.

Quite possibly! Thumbs Up

Also except hand held devices like the Etrex etc, I've been asking them to add these for years Wink

Only way is by using the link I posted above or by emailing Garmin directly.

You've posted a number of links above. Wink

I'm guessing that this is the one that you meant (all the way back on page 1):

To be fair most of the roads in Carmarthenshire are unclassified so it's hardly surprising Wink
