2 or 3 times a year I travel from East Yorkshire to Pershore. A fairly simple route: M62, M18, M1, A 42, M42, M5 to within 10 miles of Pershore.
Trouble is that TT always directs me off the M42 at the junction with the M5 and takes me on a convoluted, horrendous route of B Roads, through a million villages and roundabouts instead of down the M5 which is far simpler and quicker. Why would it do that? Confused

Because it happens on all GPS devices on various routes. Likely some duff gen in the mapping data?

How long has it been going on?

Are you on HD Traffic? On RDS-TMC Traffic?

Some time ago, Traffic was re-routing there because of the roadworks which lasted a long time and a long distance - from M42 to M5 Jct 5, with frequent closures. Or maybe you have picked up some rubbish Mapshare idiosyncrasies.

Sorry, I should have added that I often use that route and haven't been diverted since the roadworks were completed long ago (months). It

If you are ignoring the route great !
If you aren't you (and everyone else) should remember that a sat nav is your slave not your master.

I last did that journey in last week in July. I don't have any kind of "Traffic". Going down again in 3 weeks time; it will be interesting to see if anything has changed. Confused

A lot of these strange routes must be down to data capture from the "smart" sat navs and the updated algorithms then used. A route I regularly use, B road with passing places, is now chosen for me by my kept up to date One V3 over the previously chosen A road route. Locals have always used it as it is faster than the single carriageway stuck behind lorries A route. That data must now have filtered through and this route is now full of terrified holiday makers, buses and trucks. Maybe it will revert back now the traffic will have slowed due to the increase in volume.
