I have downloaded the lastest CSV to GPX converter and have unzipped the file but when I click on setup.exe it says "cannot start CSV to GPX Converter from this location because it is already installed from a different location." Where that is I have no idea, so how do I sort this out? I thought I had deleted the previous installation but it looks like I have missed something. Any help appreciated.

Uninstall the previous version first - CSV to GPX Converter

'Uninstall a program'

Type "uninstall" into the Windows bottom left search box and it will be one of the options.

I have uninstalled the converter and reinstalled it. There is now a shortcut icon on the desktop for the converter but when clicked it says "Application cannot be started. Contact the application vendor."

Hmmm

What OS are you using ?

What should happen is that immediately after installing, the program should automatically start and you should get a popup box asking you to select or set your Working Directory.

If the program failed to start at that point then something is amiss.

Troubleshooting:

Uninstall it again.
Then navigate to C:\Users\[your username]\Appdata\Local\Apps\2.0\
The above should be empty

Let me know.

Uninstalled again. Searched for your link, with my name in it. ". I have found a folder with 2 folders in it, Data and 1W9B8WKV.ZGK. If I click through both folders 3 times I come to folder empty I am using Win 7. When I click on setup.exe nothing seems to happen other than CSV to GPX appears in the program list

What is saying "No application found" ?

All you should be doing is navigating there and looking. If that 2.0/ folder is empty then reinstall it and look again.

What should appear is 2 random letter & number folders. In those folders is 4 files with suffixes like .manifest and .application.

I'll stop there till you get this far.

Sorry this is a bit convoluted but I'm trying to see if it installed OK.

I may have to test it again on my PC but that won't be until tomorrow or possibly Monday.

Reinstalled CSV to GPX and then I checked your link again and there are now 16 files and 11 folders in Apps 2.0.

OK

That sounds more than there should be and I haven't got my PC handy to check.

Anyway, inside one of those folders you should find the csv to gpx converter.exe along with some .manifest and .application files.

1) Just double click the exe and see what happens

2) If that fails, as before, then right click the exe and 'run as administrator'

If the run as administrator works then that is another issue.

After reinstalling the short cut came back. I clicked on this but got the same message to contact vendor. I then turned of my Avast anti virus and tried again and then it worked. Not sure what to do after this despite following your converter pdf, just me being thick I expect.

Not at all, good spot with Avast

I don't know Avast but does it have a whitelist facility?

My program is fully digitally signed so Avast should have let it through.

I remember Malwarebytes anti-ransomware stopping the program dead because I'm performing a lot of file transactions very rapidly.

Malwarebytes has a whitelist so once added it let it run through.

Avast does something similar. There is a whitelist near the bottom of the General page in the Avast settings. Scroll down to exclusions and add the path to CSV to GPX Converter.exe. On my system it is:
Code:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0\5RZD18Q3.1JJ\K1MW8G9R.EPT\csvt..tion_5c04913408266626_07e1.0001_11c50ec56fb69324\CSV to GPX Converter.exe
Yours will be similar but with a different username and random characters.

Thanks

Hopefully that path doesn't change with each new install.

I don't think it does, it seems to remember those weird 8.3 folder names.
