The new devices are definitely faster. Not sure if it's twice as fast however it's noticeable, especially on route planning.

I've not handled any of TomTom's PND "efforts" since my LIVE 950. I thought that my 950 was reasonably quick at determining a route and handling traffic. OK it very occasionally got temporarily confused at roundabouts with many exits or confusing junctions but you learnt to recognise them and use the road numbers on the signs to help, this would give the 950 just enough time to kick back in.

People are saying that the newer PNDs are getting quicker but as these newer PNDs don't have to deal with third party POIs then surely that is to be expected?

Regards,

with the latest update they have removed the voice alerts for traffic delays, and no audio notification for there is a faster route.

The full screen lane guidance and junction exit views are also problematic to be nearly non-existent.

And you don't know if the traffic information is actually correct. As the PND's give different details to the software version for mobiles. I've had it show upto 40 minutes difference for delays.

The actual mobile app provides better routing compared to the pnd's and also provides voice notifications of delays. The only issue is that you need a decent mobile signal and there are a lot of areas without this. Just wish they had roaming within the UK.

The routing is also different between the products (ie the PND has been wanting to take me of a motorway to go another route while the software version has advised to go straight down the motorway)

Users are still petitioning to get full poi support added

I've not seen the latest garmins so unsure how they perform and what features they have, but the best one i used was the 3598 but had the grey screen issue and if it wasn't for that I would probably still have it. And if they brought out a newer model with the same features and build quality then I would probably get it over a TT, especially if it allowed custom poi's and full 3rd party camera support.

I have no issue with any of my Garmins build quality. My 2599 is solid as a rock.

I have considered one of the new Drive units but the only one that interests me is the top of the range with powered magnetic mount, if it came in a 6" variant I'd have no issue upgrading.

I had the Drive unit with built in camera for a day but the central camera has forced the ball mount to be put to the extremity which I found causes noticeable vibration.

From what's been posted Garmins routing engine isn't always logical so it's swings and roundabouts. Being as I only use mine for cameras and traffic it suits me.

You would have thought, that given the number of complaints about it on the various forums for years, they would have done something to improve it by now.
