The top 10 speed cameras in Wales over a 12 month period has been revealed.
Between April 2014 and March 2015 over 30,000 speeding drivers have been caught - with just one camera responsible for the lion's share with 12,107 motorists ticketed.
A fixed camera in Cardiff dishes out penalties to an average of 33 drivers a day.
The 10 most prolific speed cameras in Wales between April 2014 and March 2015:
1) Newport Road junction with Colchester Avenue, Cardiff 30mph 12,107
2) North Road southbound, Cardiff 30mph 3,836
3) Newport Road junction with Rover Way, Cardiff 30mph 2,911
4) Road works on the A483 Fabian Way, Neath Port Talbot 30mph 2,669
5) A465 Cefn-Coed-y-Cymmer, Dowlais 60mph 2,212
6) North Road at junction with College Road, Cardiff 30mph 1,987
7) A548 Greenfield, Flintshire 30mph 1,627
8) M4 Port Talbot (westbound) average speed cameras 50mph 1,599
9) Carmarthen Road (near Kingsway), Swansea 30mph 1,432
10) M4 Port Talbot (eastbound) average speed cameras 50mph 1,367

I thought that sounded familiar. It's actually a redspeed. But if it caught 12,107 in that 12 month period, something doesn't match up, because in Oct 2014 it had caught 13,624 in six months.
If that was an earlier six month period, then it's certainly had an effect.
And it looks like it's £100 per flash. I wonder if the number includes jumping the red as well as speeding? |

I was caught by a Cardiff speed camera and took the option of a Speed Awareness Course. Of course I was upset but the rules are made in a democratic society and I have grandchildren who I hope will never be hit by a speeding motorist.
Last week I was in a slow moving stream on the M1 doing 50 mph to protect the workforce. A very aggressive driver overtook us all at a tremendous speed.
People like that need to be brought to book. |

The camera at Greenfield is hidden behind the side of an arch under a railway bridge. Scammers claim it the siting criteria. Yeah right.
It can't be seen until drivers pass under the bridge and then it's FLASHHHH

There is a huge difference between driving too fast for the conditions as the case you mention above and driving to the conditions but a little over a limit that has often been set too low as has a new limit outside our village. For decades it was national limit then dropped to 30 mph. Last year the scamera vans caught over 270 drivers, most of whom would have been driving safely to the 85th percentile. |

Speed limits correctly set to the 85th percentile will ensure those driving perfecly safely are not penalised. Police need to target dangerous driving, not thow a net over all of us for revenue. BTW I have never had a speeding ticket. |

It is the speed limit determined after a survey of the traffic travelling through the area where the limit would be applied. The guidance is that the safe limit is around the 85th percentile - i.e. the speed at which 85% of the drivers were within, so 15% of the drivers would be above the proposed limit.
As the spread of speeds is likely to be a normal distribution, it is also the speed which is one standard deviation above the average speed observed by the survey.
