Coming from years of tomtom PND and latterly fromTT mobile (iphone).

My old TT 1005 v2 was fab (I used it mainly for 3rd party POI's), but I wanted to tidy the cabin up a bit so I transfered TT to my old iPhone 4s on IOS7 and still used the imported POI's.

Then one day, under the influence one Sunday evening, I tragically forgot why I had ignored the IOS update nag screen and pressed the update button by mistake!
Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Can't reverse it so started to explore the other options that used a downloaded map, rather than a data based online map.

I have a perfectly acceptable in car nav system (it just doesn't take 3rd party POI's), so it was a program only to support the import of those POI's I needed.

Seems Sygic is the only one out there I could find, and largely for free.....but the palarver [sic] one has to go through to parse and export the file to a rupi is almost beyond belief!

Anyone got a better experience of importing POI's?

It's 15.2.5 map 9

Thanks

And on the latest version of Sygic, you cannot set up proximity warnings for imported POIs (cameras) like you were able to do before the update. I have studiously not done the update on my phone because of this, but do the updates on my tablet in the hope that they have improved the situation. Seems like they are doing the TT thing and removing facilities that some users find really useful.

not used the app for sometime now, should re-install as backup, but if did I would just use cameralert (as did last time) as no messing about with importing into sygic and cameralert is better at providing the warnings

And it's directional Sygic was not (before the update that removed the proximity alerts)

yeh and it worked perfectly running in the background - used to have car dock ultra which allowed full car-docking until google re-instated the setting

cameralert is brilliant because it would warn you when overspeed as well as all cameras

the other problem with sygic is the maps are well out of date

Somewhat of an update.

I use a Geocache database tool GSAK, which has a RUPI export macro as an addon.

http://gsak.net/board/index.php?showtopic=21933&st=20&#

I use it for geocaches but you could use it to import other POI I guess.

Or you could download the Sygic RUPI converter from HERE. Or have a read of THIS website.
Problem is that in the later versions of Sygic they don't allow alerts for third party POIs like earlier versions. I took the precaution not to update mine from the last version that did allow alerts Very Happy

I don't know if I am the only one who ran with the latest update, but now I cannot create an Import folder within the Maps folder on either my Nexus 7 or Samsung SGS4 with ease.
Both units allow a file but then it cannot be named and to escape the situation the only way out seems to be to pull the USB lead from the PC. Once plugged back in what should be the Import folder appears as New Folder and cannot be renamed.

Updated: Whilst typing the above, the Nexus eventually created an Import folder but it took several minutes to accomplish and not instantaneous as before.

I have a Note 2 with Sygic installed and I am having real problems adding the Pocket GPS database.... I don't suppose anybody could give me a blow by blow method of getting the camera database uploaded ? I don't have an import folder in the maps folder and don't know what to do to get it to add.... Please !!!
I have the Cameralert but don't really understand how it works .... Does it run in the background ? Does it automatically give me warnings ?

Thanks

If you are looking at the file system in Windows, just create the import folder the same way as you would any other. Right click a blank space and chose New ~ Folder then name it import

It runs either in the background or in the foreground on your device. If you are running a different nav app in the foreground then run CA in the background. Warnings are popup and audible warnings.

Yes (if it's running).

Sorry to be dense...... which folder do I add the "new folder" to and which file types do I add ? I've tried doing this and it doesn't seem to want them.

Cheers.

Update..... It seems to have done it ( I don't know how but it has ).

Cheers for the help.

create the folder on the device by using ES File Explorer - copy any poi into there you want adding to the system, again you can use ES FE for this.

If you not bothered about seeing the cameras on the map, just install CamerAlert and it will run in the background and alert you when there are cameras about. It's really easy to configure and works (only now and again is there a little hiccup)

New to sygic.
I have a large collection of my own TomTom .OV2 and .BMP files.
Is there an easy way to convert them to the correct format for Sygic, .rupi?

I can see a sygic converter but it doesn't seem to work with .OV2 files.

Also with TomTom it was possible to configure verbal warnings for proximity to .OV2 files such as speed cameras, is there any way of configuring Sygic?
