Do they come with any new features or is it just the lifetime world maps?

Returning to the "third party POI" question: Does anybody know whether these new units support third party POI:

Arrow Fully - creating/changing/deleting POI categories and creating/changing/deleting individual POIs.
Arrow Partially - You can load and navigate to third party POIs but you cant create/change/delete POIs.
Arrow Not at all.

Regards,

Partially pretty well describes the situation to my understanding.

Thanks David.

It's extremely annoying to not be able to have full third party POI support and the other great features that used to exist.

Unfortunately those features (such as full third party POI support) were removed before SatNavs were mainstream therefore most users nowadays aren’t aware of the old features or functionality that is now missing on their SatNavs – thus the majority will not complain so TomTom thinks it’s looking after its customer base.

Regards,

Has anyone seen a proper spec sheet for the 5100/6100

Its at the top of my buy list but I need it to have a 3G data connection for traffic as the 2g sim in the 5000 is rubbish now in a lot of places. Data via smartphone is so much quicker

So if anyone info it would be appreciated.

OK got TomTom to Answer

Absolute Rubbish on 2 fronts

1: 2G Voda Connection.

2: Euro only roaming, Although sold as a worldwide unit withworldwide maps and traffic.. The SIM is only good in europe, anywhere else you have to download traffic via your own smartphone

Another one for the junk pile I think.

I'm looking at buying a Go5100 to replace my ailing Go930.

I can live with 2G connections since that is more than I have at present and my 'phone often steps down to H only..... and I'm not planning any trips to Europe.

TomTom say that 3rd party POIs are now supported on this device so can anyone verify that our essential speed camera POI files all work OK?

What about the sound files and speed camera icons?

There is a 2mb limit on the ov2 file size you can upload to the 6100/5100 so as long as the file is less than 2mb you should be good to go..

Also it seems the 5100/6100 will not be compatible with the mydrive iOS and Andriod apps (TomTom Support told me today). due to them connection over GPRS and no bluetooth.

H is way better than 2... it Goes 2G Then (E) Edge Then (H) HSPDA Then (H+) HSPDA+ Then (4G) 4G -- in the great scheme of data H is substantially better the the 5kbit a second 2g can manage

I use Windows Phone, which is not supported by TomTom apps so no loss for me there, but will our speed camera database work properly on the new 5100?

No, The speed cams do not work. Well not usefully anyway. Evidently we can now load them into the new TT's but we cannot set proximity alerts to get any notification when nearby. I'm not even sure that it is posible to see an icon but this needs to be confirmed by somebody with better info.

So now you know! Hang onto your GO930 and be kind to it, the latest models will prove to be a monstrous disappointment if you ever use the decent features on it.
