I'm with you, ticklepin. I used to complain that TomTom's old "Home" was a nightmare of crap design and slowness, but it's an absolute dream to use compared to My TomTom/My Drive/Connect (they can't even decide what to call it!).

It MAY all be down to your PC though...

MyDrive on my main desktop PC (old, running Win XP, but with a massive amount of storage space) usually refuses to recognise ANY of the recent TomTom's I have tried connecting to it (at least three). Or if it does recognise it briefly, then it disconnects 1/2 way through any update and says "something has gone wrong with your device". All the time, the Go and the PC say they are correctly connected.

But if I use MyDrive on my equally old laptop (running XP and with hardly ANY storage space) then it connects fine and only fails because it fills up the harddrive with stuff in it's cache and then falls over!

I was hoping to be able to report that a corner had been turned[to coin a sat-nav phrase]; two downloads of map updates, 383 Kb and 48 Kb, and nary a glitch.
Alas, today's attempt to update (71Kb map) failed to 'connect' despite the 6000 saying that it had done so.

The website then came up with its ultimate sanction- 'Can not run Unicode version of ATL80.DLL on Windows95, Windows98 or Windows Me. Please install the ANSI version.'
The program seems to exhibit this proclamation in a very random manner. As I have confessed before, I run Windows XP, so I fail to see the relevance.
Also, please, the ANSI version of what?
It must mean something to somebody, but not to me, and even Google leads this enquirer rapidly into the land of potentially virus laden Geekdom.

So, the question remains. Why the erratic performance, and why the subsequent lack of any meaningful error messages.
Obviously any apology from TomTom is totally out of the question. . .

BEWARE!! Apparently there's a new version of MyDriveConnect released today and it is causing mayhem (just in case you go downloading it in hope rather than expectation).

Thank you for the warning!
This pantomime seems entirely typical of TomTom web expertise.
I realise now that my bad experiences are widely shared.

I wonder when I dare to again update?
Could someone fire a Very pistol or something?

Keeping my 6000 well away from my XP P.C., this morning I down-loaded the new 'MyDrive Connect'; and yes, I get:
'The procedure entry point GetTickCount64 could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll.'
error message as reported on the TomTom forum. Doesn't seem that much debugging has gone on . . .

I connected today with my MacBook Pro and MyDrive Connect upgraded and then offered me Europe Map v9.46 which I thought was funny as I'm sure the last update was only at the end of February!

All updates etc went fine although when it downloaded the map updates for the main map there was a display glitch in that it didn't see my device, reconnecting a couple of times sorted it

Map v946 is a sort of interim release...

Did Hamlet have a TomTom?

With this continuing frustration I was thinking, b*gg*r it all, I'll get a Garmin, when this curiously apposite quotation came into my noddle:

"The undiscover'd country from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?"

I see all we posters on this thread are either staff or early members; are we just grumpy old fogeys?

Yep. Just grumpy old fogies who are hacked off by technology, but once we get used to using it, we get awfully teed off when it is taken away from us. Very Happy

Just for the record, Hamlet did not have a TomTom - he consulted a large bone called Yorik because he was very worried about slings, arrows, pounds of flesh and gondolas.

Thank you for the excellent info. Dennis.
I wish I'd had your Eng. Lit. teacher; Shakespeare would have been so much more fun!

I see Tom Tom have come clean:
https://uk.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12911
Does anyone know when it happened?

I wonder what we are to understand by the word 'soon'?
