Dear GPS Pocket World Forum Users,

For a High School Engineering course, my engineering group and I need to conduct a quick survey about GPS to continue the development process in our project. We would highly appreciate if you would take the time to answer these 5 questions allotting us the data we need in order too continue on the project. You can either post on these forums or email me at chester_zeros87@hotmail.com We would like too thank anyone willing to participate and tell you that any information you can provide will be put too good use.

-Steve

1. How or where do you carry your GPS unit when geocaching or during other related activities such as backpacking or hiking?

2. When carrying the GPS unit in the manner above described, is it found to be uncomfortable or an inconvenience? If yes, how so?

3. How is the reception of the GPS unit when carried this way?

4. Do you use Waypoints? If so is it difficult or inconvenient to use or enter waypoints, when carrying the GPS unit this way?

5. When trying to get the best possible reception how do you hold the GPS unit? Where would you carry it based on how comfortable it is only, without regard to reception?

Thank you for your time.

1. In an AquaPac™ either in a map pocket or over the shoulder if not wearing the coat with the map pocket on

2. Rarely

3. It varies by unit in my experience - one with a quadrifilar antenna (like a Magellan 315) handles it much better than a Garmin eTrex of similar vintage with a patch antenna

4. No more difficult than dialling a phone number on a mobile really.

5. Hold it in front of me, as if I was trying to read it.... but paying attention to tree cover etc. Based on comfort - in an AquaPac as in 1.

1. I use a Bluetooth GPS in the car. I have a mount on the dash board for it.
When hiking I have a wrist mounted GPS (like a really big watch!)
When mountain biking I use the same small GPS, but it has a mount for the handlebars

2. I don’t find either units to be a problem.

3. Excellent.

4. In the car I use TomTom navigation software.
When hiking / biking I plot waypoints en-route. This is very easy.

5. I find that these ways of carrying my GPS are the best, both for reliability and comfort.

Hello Steve

1 shirt pocket - small self contained pad-gps unit
2 never given it a thought, so it must be comfortable
3 fine
4 yes, a lot better than my phone texting
5 again, never given it a thought, just take it out of my shirt poacket and the reception has always been fine when viewing the screen
