Chaps, I only mentioned it as an observation, didn't mean to start a fight. :-) |

When it says your device is full it should give you various options, one is to insert a sd card ... if you do so the maps will be put there. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Meanwhile on the 3598 the mounting system is rather heavy and is suspended remotely from the vent so it tends to vibrate if using the Garmin vent support. It is also has a very strong magnet so I am concerned about taking it in hand
luggage along with cameras and computers.
So the question is
has any one taken a 3598 or device with a similar mount in hand luggage along with a laptop, digital cameras and other potentially sensitive items eg credit cards on a flight. |

Magnets will upset the magnetic stripe on a CC, but the chip on the card and other electrical equipment should be just fine. |

The only option I get is to choose a region, looking on the memory card when the 3598 is connect to the pc there's a rather large file .IMG in the Garmin folder called gmapprom would this be the previous map file? |

Almost certainly. You can confirm that by removing the card and seeing what happens when you switch the nuvi on. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Reckon it worth copy the files on the memory card to my pc, then deleting the files on the memory card and then trying the update again? |

Definitely worth a try although didn't need to do that when I updated my maps which were also on the card. Try the update though without the card installed. Wait to insert it until prompted by Express. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Well deleted the card and ran the update, still tells me the device is full but now gives me the option to install to card so the updates now downloading. Guess I wasn't getting the option before as there wouldn't have been enough room on the card. Thanks for the help sussamb |

Garmin show a lack of foresight in that they ship their latest and greatest Satnav with insufficient storage for the maps that they claim will run on the device.
If they provided a way for all the maps for a device to be held locally on the PC and then to be quickly transferred to the SatNav for the users upcoming trip. However they appear to be stuck with USB2 speeds for data transfer. |

I agree
My EU maps, as supplied when new, left very little room for manoeuvre. When the 2015 maps came out they were far larger.
I managed to swap mine to the UK 2015.20 map with no apparent loss of functionality as far as I can tell (I still have voice commands) which is apparently one of the bits you should lose by changing from the default map set. The UK map size require no SD card and I still have quite a bit of space left on the unit.
I wonder how Garmin are now dealing with new units that will presumably come with the large 2015 maps ? _________________ Satnav:
