Hi all

My new car comes in a couple of weeks, and I'm looking for the best option for camera alerts. Previously, I've been a very happy user of TomTom and CameraAlert on my iPhone, but the new car has a whizzy Google maps navigation system, so hopefully (and I do say 'hopefully' since the experiences I've had with other manufacturer in-car sat navs has been patchy in the past) I can retire TomTom.

What's the best option for alerting me to cameras, though? The system (Audi MMI Nav Plus) can't use the PocketGpsWorld DB unfortunately, so I guess I'm looking at a standalone unit. The obvious choice is to carry on using my iPhone, but I'd prefer not to, as (1) I'd like to get something professionally hard wired into the car, and (2) I'll be using the iPhone to stream music to the in-car hifi.

From reading the forums, there doesn't seem much point in buying a radar detector, since by the time I'd be alerted, I'd have already been caught(!), so something GPS based seems like the best option.

Anyone got a recommendation?

Thanks in advance

Mark.

In my opinion, there is no alternative to CamerAlert on the iPhone (stand alone, not riding on TomTom). Directional, update on the fly any day, any time, sensible voice warnings. (And presumably you have a subscription already, so don't waste it).

I don't do music, but I bet you can continue to stream music to the car system - some smartypants will come along in a minute and say so. My system has a USB socket for music stuff, but I don't even use that.

Don't want to use your iPhone? Get a cheapie Android smartphone. They do work better than an iPhone you know. Very Happy
