Good day to everyone,

My current car (Nissan Note Tekna) has SatNav built in with Speed Cameras. However this car is being traded in for a Skoda YETI and I have not gone for the built in SatNav.

Ideally I would like my Motorola Moto G (Running on 4.4 KitKat) to run Navigation instead of buying a dedicated SatNav.

Looking around Google Play there are loads of SatNav Apps plus specialised Speed Camera Apps like CamerAlert.

I am not to worried about how great the SatNav functions are but more about being warned of possible camera sites (fixed or mobile)

Trying to see which app/database works the best and up to date.
There is a rural mobile site in the small village I live in (The mobile van turns up every Wednesday and Friday mornings) and they looking down towards a dip in the road to catch motorists as the come over the brow and then it usually to late to slow down as he has got you.
The built in Nissan SatNav in my current car shows this as a mobile site but looking at online speed camera databases like SCDB.info they do not show the site. Also if you look at the Worcestershire Safety Camera partnership (who run the mobile site) they do not show it on there camera locations page anymore but it is still in use believe me).
So out of interest does any one know if this mobile camera site is in the pocketgpsworld database. I can not look as I have not subscribe in the 3 years I have been a member of the pocketgpsworld.
The details are..
52.057757 , -2.298059
B4208 in Welland (UK). The mobile site is right outside the church verge looking North East towards Handley Swan. The limit is 30mph

I want to buy a good Speed Camera app which is uptodate as my friend who uses a similar speed camera app (SamCam Plus) got caught at 36mph when he came to visit me 2 moths ago as the camera was not listed in that database or at the main feed database SCDB.info

You'll find there's normally a big round sign with numbers on it .. if you slow down when you see that it shouldn't be an issue Very Happy

Hi and welcome to PGPSW forums.
We have a mobile site at 52.05731, -2.29877, trapping vehicles travelling southbound away from the junction A4014 and Drake St. Presumably when you say "looking North East" you mean it is trapping vehicles travelling in a South Westerly direction? This would agree with our cam, but our location is slightly different to yours.

I use Sygic on my Android phone. It has the maps on board, so does not use data and does not suffer from lack of 3G. You can import the PGPSW cams into it, but they are not directional. I use it in conjunction with CA from PGPSW which does give directional alerts.

BTW, you sometimes get unhelpful posts here, but they usually come from me, or so I have been told.

That's why PGPSW does not take a lot of notice of Safety Partnership locations for verifying cam locations.

Thank you M8TJT, that was really helpful.

Good to know, so I shall be subscribing.

sussamb... I agree with you and so far in my 33 years of driving I have no convictions however I want the ability to know where something potentially dangerous is when travelling in places I am not aware of. Besides asking for advice only to have someone chip in with the nanny state attitude finger wagging does not go down well, also if you are that anti towards people asking for locations of speed cameras why are you on a forum dedicated to speed camera locations? Seems illogical to me but I am Mr Spock :-)

So you've noticed the big round signs with the numbers on them then Very Happy I think Suss had his 'silly head on' earlier. He's usually far more sensible. But as I said, 'helpful' comments like that frequently come from my direction.

:-)

There was me thinking these were the distances to the next service!

The camera in our posts above has been mobile site for several years.
The other end of the village, the B4208 stretches dead straight for just under a mile and this is the direction most high speed drivers come from. They are doing 60+ as they come right past the 30mph signs (and trip the 30mph Slow Down Display) and are just slowing down to 30mph as they reach the mobile site. Now never in a 1000 years has the mobile van turned around to catch them as they come through the village at speed. No they aim the camera the opposite way to catch the slightly over 30mph drivers as they come over the brow of the hill which is outside the village.

We as the local parish have asked for the camera to face the other way but we don't get a response from the local safety camera partnership and speaking to highways/County Council they say it's nothing to do with them and to speak to the local safety camera partnership. So they just want to catch the 36mph drivers and not the 60mph drivers???

Oh and no one has ever died outside the church from a speed related incident so no-one knows why they located the cash cow generator outside the church.

Somebody obviously realises that they will catch more speeders and thus raise more cash with it pointing the way it does and to hell with what really matters.

Why oh why do so many self opinionated people use any excuse to go 'off subject' to air their petty arguments instead of just answering simple questions?

My view: After using a number of options I would recommend using TomTom running alongside Pocket GPS. I would like TomTom to have a few more options but it is easy to use and its routing algorithms are definitely far superior to Garmin or Sygic etc.

And giving your opinion is not self opinionated then?Shocked
Most of the conversations here have involved comments that the OP has raised. The OP's question was not a simple question, but one that called for people's opinions to answer and in the main, this is continuing. It was the OP that started 'wandering' onto the pros and conns of the cam site about which he was talking. It's 'his thread' so he can talk about whatever he wants to.
I feel it sad that you feel that a little humour cannot be injected into the 'conversation'. And as for TT's routing being 'far superior', that's your opinion. They will all get you there providing you look out of the window and apply some common sense.
See, your comment has led the thread even further off topic than it ever was before your 'off topic' reply instead of just giving your best opinion to the OP.
At least there is no serious trolling on this site like you hear about on other social media sites.

Aren't we always being told by this site that GPS solutions should be used with common sense? Giving the benefit of experience is not being 'self opinionated' it is simply answering a question without resorting to ridicule.
As to my 'opinion', you may wish to read the lead article in this weeks newsletter or is that just drivel?
Rest assured, I will now desist from commenting on this thread.

I'm with you M8TJT, This place would be like so many other dry, boring forums if a little bit of personality and banter wasn't injected. Keep up the good work MAtey.

Edit - BTW, I think you are absolutely correct in your assumption for the camera facing the other way.

I think that it is trapping traffic travelling SW because the OP said it was pointing NE. If it's a normal van, it traps traffic travelling in the opposite direction to which it is 'pointing'.
