Hi,
I notice through the various forums that Tom Tom are constantly updating their navigation devices and that forum members appear to be also be regularly updating their hardware.

I bought an original Go 700 when they were launched, whenever that was. Still works perfectly and is now used my my wife.. I bought a 940 Live in 2009 ( I think!) and it is still also working perfectly.
The later models appear to have fewer features than the models I own. What is the point in changing, and why do Tom Tom appear to be moving backwards? I have updated my European map once on my 940 and have the latest available software / firmware on both systems.
By the way, the batteries on both of the above are kna****ed, but I only ever use them in car, with power attached.

Am I missing something?

If you are happy with how your current devices work -- especially the 940 -- then stay with them. The only thing you are missing is aggravation, lots of it.

and there are threads here on how you can change the batteries yourself, with some care, and restore that functionality. Laughing

AND with those two models, you probably have the two best ever produced.

Yesterday I met a man who still has a 700 and I tried my best to persuade him to swap for one of my "new, improved" models, but without success. Oh, if only I could lay my hands on a mint condition (or even a not mint, but good working order) 700, I'd be happy as pig in muck! I have fanciful dreams of the days when I had a 700 with external aerial and external microphone. Sadly, I daren't explore the possibilities of fleabay for one.

Still got my 700 Cool Has newish uprated battery and 8 GB Cf drive
Fits the latest map on whole Cool
But, has the odd satellite fix problem, suddenly forgets where it is sometimes, briefly Sad
Long may it live, touch wood
Roll on TomTom waking up and bringing out a decent replacement with at least the same features, custom POI's etc

If you could get one, the external antenna and hot shoe (and mic) would deal with the position fix (and microphone for hands free).

And sell me your 700!

Then you'd have enough to buy one of those lovely new TomToms. Very Happy
