Yes I think because the basics are right, these units may be a bit of a grower

Lets hope so Laughing

I am not sure that is a bad thing - I'd rather it be good navigation than something that is mediocre at everything.

I think that was what I was trying to put across. It IS better than my Garmin 3598-HD at getting you from A to B with

* Improved Root
* Improved turn by turn vocal direction (including road names and turn after next, excluding lane guidance)
* Improved visual performance (clarity of road and turn) (excluding some lane guidance)

Where it (currently) fails is
* No custom POIs
* No previewing routes (except from your current position)
* No alternative routes or forced deviations because of road blocks, etc.
* Cannot do something simple like tap the next turn instruction or a re-readout of the vocal instruction when you missed it

Also the Garmin's screen is much better than the TomToms

Plus, of course, old map data - which is really poor of TomTom to release a new unit that isn't currently compatible with a current map release!

However, I've just pre-ordered the TomTom 6000 as a spare for the team (over the 600 because of it's click and connected feature - even if the data is slower!), as I think they have potential and in the end A to B is what most of us need, most of the time

I think I'll hang onto my 550 for a while longer

Forced deviations needs some more thought on TomTom's part - I have had several times tried saying road block ahead and it complains about not being on route - because I have just passed the point it suggests do U turn ( a pointless exercise if the road it wants to send me down is blocked/closed!)

There seems to be issues with HD traffic at the moment for integrated devices (have a GL 1000) and was a problem certainly for me around the M25 yesterday.

Could anybody with a shiny new Go 400/500/600 with the traffic through smartphone tethering tell me whether their traffic information has reliable the last few days, may be tempted by the new devices once custom POI can be added.

Thanks

I use TomTom with Europe Maps on Android phone and Live Traffic sub, and not had any problems with traffic working.

This should be no different to using a GO 500/600.

I've had a Go 600 for a couple of weeks and its been faultless apart from what appeared to be a server outage at TT for a couple of hours last week.

Very impressed with the speed of getting data at start up.

I have the Go 600 & was travelling from Dover to Cumbria Thursday morning at 09:00. As soon as I set off it picked up there were problems on the M25 and offered to reroute me. I also had my 740 connected which did not pick up any traffic information until about 13:00 when I was on the M1.

Cheers for the replies, looks like as soon as custom poi are added then it'll be on the shopping list though you wonder why it wasn't implemented from the start!

It's like everyone these days... They are dammed if they don't release on time, dammed if they do (and its not final release)

At its core it is a great navigator, so lets hope they get the updates out over the next six months, and the features added
