TomTom are hosting a product launch in Amsterdam this afternoon and we're covering the event live.

Already unveiled are a range of new GPS sports watches and a new PND which is running their latest software, complete with a redesigned interface, 3D maps and lifetime HD Traffic.

If you want to follow our updates live, follow on Twitter. We will of course publish the full details after the keynote has wrapped up.

Here's MaFt's report from the floor:

Quote:
I'm in the rather grand Beurs van Berlage in the heart of Amsterdam attending the latest TomTom product launch.

GPS Watches
In 2011 TomTom launched their joint venture with Nike with the Nike Sports Watch; this gave them an insight into how people use GPS sports watches. Previously they were bulky, heavy and hard to use and only the die hard athletes would bother to put up with the clunky experience.

TomTom aim to change that with their new Sports Watches: TomTom Runner and TomTom Multi Sport. They're 11.5mm thick, weigh only 50g and have a single button for operation. They feature a high resolution screen with clear graphics, the watch faces are removable and can be popped in and out of different coloured straps. TomTom are targeting the everyday athletes rather than the hardcore.

They are also launching their own TomTom mySports platform for logging and keeping track of your goals and the data from the watches is also compatible with other popular platforms.

Commuter Concept
39% of drivers don't use any form of navigation as they generally drive to and from work and don't see the need. TomTom are looking into Commuter Traffic concepts that can show traffic information between work and home on a simple display without offering navigation itself. There are no product announcements in this regard today but some concept images were shown.

New PND
The third announcement from TomTom today is the All New TomTom GO. This has taken us all by surprise. This lack of innovation was even highlighted by TomTom as a reason why PND sales had dropped, something we've mentioned here at PocketGPSWorld. However, their research shows that 39% of drivers still use a PND as their main navigation device so, while there are still a lot of users, they just weren't replacing them - hence sales had fallen but usage hasn't.

The new GO devices aim to empower the driver to choose how they want to drive with easy to access features. The map is the heart of the new user interface, built from the ground up. The map almost replaces the menu with most features being accessible by tapping on the map itself such as choosing your destination, getting traffic details etc. Mobile apps and in-car solutions will be getting the refreshed interface too, but no timescales have yet been mentioned.

The screens are multitouch capacitive touch screens but no details of sizes were announced. Search has been massively improved with single word searches which bring up both POIs and addresses. Keywords like 'pizza' can also be used. Traffic is included is all new GO devices as standard and updated features include showing the delay in minutes in the overview map and also being offered a choice of alternate routes if you hit traffic. You are also warned with a beep if you are approaching a traffic jam with a bit too much speed.

The All New GO includes a powered magnetic dock for quickly getting going and your five most common destinations are just two taps away.

We'll keep you posted if any more information is gleaned.

And more importantly, when will TomTom quit supporting them and act as if they'd never heard of them?

Info on the new PNDs starts at about 31:26.

Very pretty! It will be interesting to see some proper hands-on reviews!

Nope. Apparently Itineraries were removed because the menus were too big; too many pages.

Gave no thought to how valued this feature is, much like community POIs.

TomTom started out as the company that listened and aded features that were requested. Now it's take it as is, or leave it.

Bad for TomTom, great news for Sygic and others that still listen to user feedback.

The new devices lack proper itineraries but they do (or at least will do) allow multiple waypoints to be added to a route.
