I would have thought that it was better to have reliable alerts than pretty pictures created by an unreliable data source Shocked

You can't be referring to TomTom cameras, surely? (The pretty pictures bit, not reliable).

Yes, because the OP suggestet that he would rather have the icons showing than have a reliable database, and as ours won't give him the pretty pictures, they must come from the TT database, hence the 'unreliable' comment.

The spoken alerts also work again in 1.13 if you add in your own mapsettings.cfg file!

Yup. Very surprising that this has been enabled by TomTom. Probably not great news for pocketgpsworld who's sales of cameralert must have soared during the 'downtime'.

Place POIs in the new POI folder in Documents (via DiskAid or other). Replace mapsettings as previously required, if you want your own audio alerts and alert configurations (distance, side of road etc.). Place your custom sounds and icons in this new POI folder too (NB the names for these must match perfectly including 'case' (upper/lower). Delete the built-in alerts in the map folder (Europe in my case).

Restart and you may find you have to 'Restore' your purchases too and possibly even 'force restart' by holding down the ON/OFF+Home buttons until you see the Apple logo.

All good again.

The app is free so it makes no difference to us. In order to use the database in the TomTom app you need a subscription anyway and we'd rather you bought that direct from us and not via Apple anyway. SO really, it's better for us that it's back in place...

Although it's still an unsupported method.

Been playing around with the new option of placing in Documents and found that the original plan to put the X2 icons gave just a Red Square.
Used the normal icons and got the correct pic.

Oh, you have to convert the Bitmaps to PNG as I downloaded the latest database from the site.

Have fun all now we can get the option to see Cams again.

1.13 works for me using .bmp files, you should no longer need to convert to .png

I seem to remember them needing to be 24bit and that if they aren't that triggers the "default" red square to be displayed.

I also resized the pocketgpsworld .bmp files to double the pixel dimensions (24x24?) to make them display at double the size onscreen.

The latest TomTom App has a folder called poi

Put all your .oggs, .pngs and .ov2 speedcam files in there.

Delete the mapsettings.cfg from the main map folder and replace it with Mike Alders' version.

Turn off TomTom speed cam and use show pois on map for the ones you want.

Latest DiskAid version 5.45
TomTom 1.13

Delighted to be back to seeing and hearing cams on the display.

Really liked however, the simplicity of Camera Alert for updating cams rather than manually copying them in with DiskAid.
