Blackberry launched their new range of handsets at an event in New York yesterday. The new devices run the latest software, known as BB 10. Two new handsets were unveiled, the Z10, equipped with a 4.2 inch touchscreen and the Q10, a 3.2 inch handset with a Blackberry's trademark physical keyboard, much loved by business.

BB10 is a complete ground up re-write of the platform with many new features, full multi-tasking, the ability to have separate business and personal areas which are firewalled from each other.

Although full details of BB10's map app have yet to be revealed, early reports are mixed. Although it now includes turn-by-turn directions, those who have had an opportunity to try it describe it as basic and underwhelming.

Whilst Google are no longer providing the map data there is some confusion over who is. A few sites claim it is TomTom and others claim it isn't but don't know who is! TomTom have made no formal announcement on the subject so we await confirmation with interest.

Good grief. Shocked I used to be a staunch BB fan until they messed up the os, like a sheep I switched sides to Apple about a year ago. As did millions of other hardcore BB users.....and I would never go back. But with that in mind you would have thought that at least BB wouldn't make the same mistake as Apple when Apple took away Google maps! At least Apple saw the light in the end.

What the hell were they thinking in the boardroom when they made that decision? Was the topic of discussion "How can we upset our last remaining few customers the most?" An an ex-BB fan, I almost feel sorry for them.

BB10 is more advanced than ISO6 is many respects, and TomTom Maps more detailed and accurate than (in the UK at least) Google maps or directions

That is perhaps what they were thinking

While I ditched BB several years ago, and my old Apple iPhone (4) is gathering dust, I would definitely consider BB10 - welcome back Blackberry

Google is only good for Streetview, as far as I am concerned

If BB10 is a competitive offering in the latest smartphone market, that goes without saying. It is up there with WP8, and blows the user experience of Android and iOS out the water

If BB10 is too late to market, that is another question

Such as? (Not that I want to defend Apple here but explain your statements)
