Hi just picked up a Garmin 2595LM from Halfords, to complement my other units - mainly for the Audible audio books feature, and done the updates via Express - now to S/W 7.70

However it just locks out about 2-3 times a day, making it not fit for purpose for me

If it was just a switch on and off, that (may) be fine, but it locks out and (sometimes) you can see faintly on the screen "charging,,,etc." other times completely blank, and other times interface is there but on map at all

Pressing the off / on button in cases one or two does nothing unless you do a really long press and hold - and then it resets and reloads

With the missing map problem, an on-off doesn't always solve the problem, (the map is still missing on switch on) so a full reset is often the only solution there too

Anyone else experienced similar?

Hi I have a two week old one and also have problems. When using the Voice Command, it will occasionally reboot the unit, mostly when using the 'find place' command.
I am going to keep an eye on it and it also goes back if this is not sorted.
Love the unit otherwise. A real hands free unit, as against the TomTom which needs a microphone tap before use, especially the 850!

thinking of getting this unit as an upgrade from my nuvi 775....You mention audio books. I have been listening to audio books loaded onto memory card on 775 for years. whats so different about the 2595 in this respect please....

Nothing really different except that its NOT included on any of their new 2013 units so it seems the end of another good feature for Garmin, and that was my main reason for getting the 2595

Anyway, decided routing was awful still and back to other devices now! Sometimes use it purely as an audible reader for the car though... Easier than my smartphones to set up on the charger! Laughing [/code]

Since I updated my one with Garmin Express a few days back with latest maps and firmware my one has turned itself off four times while navigating Sad

It just turns off and I have to press the power button to restart it and then the planned navigated route continues.

I have logged it with support and before this update it never crashed once.

I have the 2595LMT model.

I have Garmin have given may the old standard stock reply on what to try...

Quote:
I?m sorry you?re having trouble with your Garmin device and am happy to
help. There are two steps to resolving this issue, please follow the
instructions below to try to solve your problem.

Firstly, I would suggest that you perform a Master Reset on the device
this will however, remove your favorites if you do not back them up:

You can save your favorites by following these steps before you perform
a master reset. If you do not wish to save your favorites, skip to step
9. Mac users can start at step 4.
1. Connect your device to the computer.
2. On your computer, click ?Start?.
3. Click ?computer? or ?my computer?.
4. Open the Garmin drive (Mac Users ? this will be located on the
desktop).
5. Open the ?Garmin? folder.
6. Open the GPX folder.
7. Copy and paste all of the contents of this folder to your desktop.
8. Close all folders.
9. Disconnect your device from your computer.
10. Turn the device off.
11. Press and hold the bottom right hand corner of the screen and press
the on/off button. (nuvi 3xx devices will need to touch the top right
hand corner of the screen)
12. Continue to hold the bottom right hand corner of the screen until
you see a message saying ?do you really want to erase all user data?.
13. Remove your thumb from the screen and press yes.
14. The device will now begin the reset.
15. Leave the device in full view of the sky for around 30 minutes.
Now this is complete, to reload your favourites on the device simply
copy and paste them from the desktop to the GPX folder on the device.

Then I would recommend a Software Update.

To rerun the update, you need to use the Garmin WebUpdater program. You
can install and run WebUpdater any time that you need to update your
unit. WebUpdater lets you connect with our server, download, and install
the latest updates for your GPS unit.

I have attached a step by step guide to assist you in downloading and
using the WebUpdater program.

To download the application and view the installation instructions,
please click the link below: http://www.garmin.com/webupdater
1. Plug your unit into the computer via USB cable.
2. Click on Download under step 1.
3. Select the appropriate version of the WebUpdater based on your
computer's operating system.
4. Click "I agree to the above terms and want to proceed to the download
page"
5. Click Download.
6. Select Run when the pop up box appears.
7. Select Run if a message appears asking "Do you want to run this
software??
8. Click next when the WebUpdater installation page appears.
9. Check the box to accept the licensing terms and select next.
10. Select done to complete the WebUpdater download.
Once WebUpdater is installed on your computer, select the application,
if it does not automatically open, to run the program and follow these
prompts:
1. Select Next on the WebUpdater Wizard.
2. Select Find Device and Next.
3. Select Next to update the unit software on your device.
4. Follow the prompts to complete the process.

If there is anything else I can help you with then please let me know.
Alternatively you can search for a solution here: http://www.garmin.co.uk/support

Simple Smile

I will report back with how it all worked or did not work.

EDIT
GPX folder is not under Garmin folder but in root of device.

EDIT2
I did the master reset but all my favourites are still on the device!

It still works but not been on a long enough trip to see if it still turns off.

All my favourites are also now messed up Sad

The ones imported with Basecamp are okay but all new ones added direct to the device have gone.

I am willing to bet it will still crash and that I have just wasted a lot of time & effort.

The ones imported by Basecamp are still there because Basecamp sends them to your nuvi as temp.gpx, you'll find that file in your GPX folder. Any gpx file is merged with the favourites in your GPS when you boot and then a one way copy is created in the GPX folder, that is named current.gpx

A hard reset deletes all the favourites so when you booted all you got was what was in temp.gpx

If you did as Garmin advised and saved the contents of your GPX folder do this. Connect your GPS to your PC and delete temp.gpx. Reboot your nuvi and delete all favourites. Reconnect your GPS to your PC, and copy the current.gpx file that you saved to your nuvi, but you MUST rename it, temp.gpx would do or anything else but not current.gpx. Disconnect your nuvi from your PC and switch it on. Your favourites should now all be back.

One final thing, reconnect to PC and delete temp.gpx. If you don't do that and then delete favourites in future you will find they come back, as everytime you boot temp.gpx gets reloaded!

Thanks for the info and I will give that a try.

Four trips today with a total of about 40 miles with no reboots.

Still a bit early to say it is okay.

I'm not sure I like the way the road name banner at the screen top now updates wiping the banner from right to left (like a news banner).

A bit distracting for my liking.

As I thought, a waste of my time as the device still shuts down and once when it was not even navigating.

So I guess the crash is not even being logged and it would seem they do not log power ups.

I'd do a factory reset and run it clean (no BaseCamp stuff, etc) and see if it holds up.

Will do.
In the mean time Garmin emailed back saying unit more than a year old out of warranty and to ring this number.

Quote:
I'm afraid it looks like we will need to book your Garmin device in for
a replacement.

Unfortunately if you have purchased the device more than a year ago we
will not be able to book the device in for a warranty replacement and
you will need to call our UK Support Free Phone on 0808 238 0000 to book
the device in for a Fixed Rate Replacement Cost.

If you have attached a copy of the proof of purchase to this email we
will also need the following information from you:

? Device Serial Number
? Email Address
? Phone Number
? Full Postal Address

Once I have this information and the Proof of Purchase I will be able to
determine if you are within your warranty with us and book the device
in. I will then send you an RMA Reference number, the address you need
to send it to and all warranty information for your reference.

I can confirm that if the device is replaced with Garmin using our RMA
Replacement system then any items in your myGarmin account that you have
purchased for the original device such as the Lifetime Map Updater will
be exchanged to the replacement device for you.

Reading that again it says if more than a year old - don't they know?

Anyway, bought & registered Aug 2012 (with lifetime maps) so emailed them back as not impressed.

Guess what, just hooked it up to delete GPX folder and reset and basecamp says new firmware v7.80

What's your bet that is what just a Garmin issue and it will be okay now?

Managed today with no crash but too early to tell.

Also the Garmin website seems to indicate all 7.80 fixes is demo mode!
