New Garmin/Ash's database/Camera Icons & voices help, pl

Hi all.
Been a member here for years and managed to get a 'lifetime status', too - so I am used to the database.
However, my (excellent) TomTom 930 has died, so I have replaced it with a Garmin Nuvi 3590.
I have used the POI loaded once to load the UK and EU 'speed zoned complete' database, then run the POI loader again to delete it.
I have downloaded and setup Ash's great CM program and configured the settings and added the CM voices to the 'Vocab' file.
On the Garmin, it has the original camera database built in - so I have deleted that and it has a settings page for the 'proximity alerts'. The 1st setting in the Garmin menu is for 'audio - alerts near proximity points' and that's off, then there's a 'alerts' page where you can tick the 'Custom POI's' to enable and I've ticked (enabled) that.
When I am driving, the cameras are displayed as the original Pocketgps icons ie all black/white icons - not the coloured ones from Ash's database -
so, Qu 1 - how do I get Ash's different coloured camera icons to replace the black/white ones
Also, the camera warnings are either the single Garmin 'bong' followed by the display wording of the type of camera on the Garmin line at the top of the screen, or if I turn the Garmin's built in 'audible warning' to off, then there's just the words and no 'bongs', not Ash's voice warnings.
so, qu 2 - how do I activate the voices from Ash's CM instead of the Garmin ones.
In the file that I use to upload the POI via Ash's CM, I have the following files
Vocab - containing the CM voices - (23 voice warning .wav files and the 'make voice warnings' file and a 'read me' file and a 'sox' application file)
Pgpsw-speed-cams-eur (zip file)
Pgpsw-speed-cams-uk (zip file)
PocketGPS_SC_Gatso (Bitmap image file) - with the correct 'yellow' CM icon
PocketGPS_SC_Gatso.gpx
PocketGPS_SC_Mobile (Bitmap image file) - with the correct 'blue' CM icon
PocketGPS_SC_Mobile.gpx
PocketGPS_SC_Redlight (bitmap file) - with the correct CM 'red' icon
PocketGPS_SC_Redlight.gpx
PocketGPS_SC_Specs (bitmap file) - with the correct 'green' CM icon
PocketGPS_SC_Specs.gpx
I'm sorry for the 'wordy' way this is written, but I hope you can help with these issues.

If you R-click on the Ash10 icon, then press Help, you'll get the on-line Help page for Camera Manager.

If you R-click on the Ash10 icon, then press Settings, you'll open up the settings menu.

There, on the Icons tab, you can select which icons are to be used.

On the Voices tab, you'll need to tick the box Automatically Manage Voice Warnings, so that the program generates all of the warnings from the component words.

Have a look at the Settings tab. You might want to select Sort by Camera Type and Speed Limit, so you get the full warning.

Make sure that you also have a copy of sox.exe in the folder where PoiLoader.exe resides (eg C:\Program files\Garmin\POI Loader).

Then run PoiLoader to install your cameras and voices.

Hope this gives you some success.

Hi Dales.
Many thanks for taking the time to reply to me post.
I have completely uninstalled POI loader and reloaded a different version and done the same with the sox file (after searching for a compatible copy here).
I also did the mods to the CM program you suggested and it appears to work now, thanks.
I have noticed that the icons are still tiny and hence the different coloured 'cameras' are virtually indistinguishable (is this right ?).
Also, I noticed that I need to have the 'audible proximity alert' in Garmin's menu turned onto 'single' beep, otherwise the voices from the CM are not heard. Now I get a Garmin 'bong' sound followed by the 'redlight' or gatso electronic CM voice. Again, is this what I should expect? It'd be nice to have the electronic voice for the CM without the Garmin 'bong'. Is this possible?

Once you are ready to use POILoader to offload the GPX files to the Garmin replace the .BMP files with the 24x24 files from here.

I think the default set are 22x22.

The small increase is only 2 pixels but it may help. I don't think you can go any larger than 24x24 with any Garmin.

I have edited the .bmp icons to a larger size and ticked the 'use icons in poi folder' in the CM settings page and they are now much better.
Still wondering if the 'bong' sound before the voice warning is there to stay, however.

Yes, I edited my icons out to 24 x 24 as well.

The bongbong will be part of the CM voice message, I would think.
You can check this by double-clicking on one of the the generated .wav files to play it on the PC.

If you don't like it, then try moving the BongBong.wav file somewhere else on your PC, so that the voice generator doesn't pick it up.

Dales, you are right - the 'bong-bong' is part of the CM voice .wav file, not the Garmin as I thought. I might edit the .wav files in audacity if I can't live with them.
Also Dales, whilst further researching the icons, I cam across one of your really helpful replies to someone else who had the same issue and I edited them via the 'image/resize/skew' method to make them much bigger (whilst slightly cutting off some of the outer coloured frame at the bottom and right hand side) - I think they're about 50x50 now and they show up much better on the screen - so yet again, thanks for that, too - I wouldn't have know about the right click/edit facility otherwise.
Cheers for all the help and advice - I've just got to get used to the Garmin way of doing things now. Shame as I really liked the TomTom 930 - sometimes newer doesn't mean better...!

There are various voice sets here, some with the bong and some without = no need to perform your own file trimming.

But (if memory serves correctly) the Ash10 camera files are named slightly differently from the normal PGPSW camera files, and so the names of the voice files (and icon files) need to match the Ash10cameras. Using the Ash10 voices avoids any renaming.

Removing the Ash10 bongbong sound should be as simple as deleting the first batch of generated voice files, moving the BongBong.wav out of the way, and generating a fresh set of voices.

Also, the Ash10 voices can have a directional element (if selected) ie North, South etc, which I like.

I downloaded the relevant voices and then created a batch file in the folder I was using for camera manager.

Once created I ran it and then set camera manager to not manage the audio.

Also done the same for the bitmaps

I have resolved the voice issues thanks to all who've helped on here.

My only outstanding issues are -

Duplicate warnings when approaching a camera that is in the middle of the road ie it gives 2 voice warnings for the same camera (I made a note of the camera number that the Garmin displays as a POI and it's the same number) - when my previous TomTom only gave the 1 warning for the same camera.

Also, I am finding that the icon for specs cameras is not showing - although I will re-upload the CM database and try this again.

The duplicate warning issue would be great to solve as there is a road near me that has 3 mobile cameras in quick succession - and the Garmin therefore gives 6 warnings!! Also, some junctions have redlight cameras both sides and therefore there's 2 warnings.

I hope there's a solution to this.

The only duplicate warning that used to annoy me is on variable speed motorways where you have cameras on the same gantry but facing both directions. Add this to the variable bit and I often got 4 warnings back to back as Garmin seem to stack them up.

Soon got that sorted though Smile

'Duplicates' option in the top menubar, on or off, and the facility to change variable cameras default speed from 0 to whatever you want, I choose 70.

Ash10's camera manager will give both a camera warning and an overspeed warning, by default. You can turn off the overspeed warnings (eg for mobiles and specs) on the Timings tab.

The filenames of the icons must exactly match the filenames of the camera files (apart from the .bmp extension). Try checking your filenames carefully, and renaming any that are wrong.

Hi again, Dales. I'll double check the file names - thanks for your help with that. As for the overspeed warning - I've already turned that feature off, but the duplicate warnings (as I described) are still an issue.
