Always appears (for no good reason) whenever a new map is released. Ignore it.

The mapshare server is usually turned back on about a week after the map is released.

map share, run away run away Confused

ive always taken the advise of the experts on here and never update the map share.
one question i have is do these user mapshare updates get checked before they are made live to the masses as all it takes is some numpty that hasnt got anything better to do to put out false road changes and potentially cause a accident.

You can change the Trust level on your device or in the Home software which affects how trust worthy TomTom believe the submitters are for the download you receive.

I'd seen the doubts about mapshare expressed here, and set my trust level to changes approved by TT, then perhaps a year ago there was several posts by someone who had taken the time to correct a large number of errors in their local town/city, and was one of TT's trusted sources as a result of his diligence. So I adjusted my trust level to trusted sources.

Me too. Trusted is the way to go. I know someone will disagree but doesn't he always?

Oh, all right then - I wasn't going to bother, but if you insist...

Simple questions - Do TomTom verify MapShare submissions? How do they verify MapShare submissions? Have you ever received an inaccurate MapShare correction? (I had my local dual carriageway corrected to 20mph by someone once and regularly come across school zones with the temporary reduced limit corrected to permanent). Have you ever made a mistake with a submission and if so, can/do you correct it? Have you noticed your map running slower with loads of MapShare corrections downloaded?

I have no evidence either way as to whether or how TomTom verify stuff (apart from when we found they verified the [permanent!] closure of the A40 into London by ringing the BBC Traffic station - it was an accident [temporary] closure, but they kept it closed for days). They are not transparent about ANYTHING of this nature. One thing's for sure - their camera database is very inaccurate. If they had a professional verification team, you'd surely expect that team to verify both cameras and MapShare corrections wouldn't you? Well, I would. Our cameras are notably more accurate - and we use a bunch of amateurs to verify them.

I don't mind if you all use MapShare - Help yourselves to them - I simply won't myself. Bear in mind mccririck trusts TT cameras. Nuff said. Very Happy

Good stuff DennisN.

Their camera d/b is poor. It supposedly uses Road Angel data, which is not that bad. Road Angel use Navteq data, could this be part of the conflict with TT/Teleatlas data?

I remember an interview with a TT/Teleatlas person, who said they are working through data 'in reverse' and concentrating on the errors reported by many. They verify these before issuing new maps, but do not verify mapshare updates.

Meanwhile the camera data continues to be issued with missing cameras and cameras that are no longer there. Mapshare continues to be both honestly well supported, and manipulatively exploited.

So far my experience of mapshare has been OK, I've experienced only one road closure that appeared contrived.
