We are also looking at the best way to 'rename' the files from being 'Speed Camera Warnings' to being 'Dangerous Area Warnings'.

Presumably with a warning along the lines of "Danger area ahead, speed limit 50 kph"?

Just a cosmetic bug, if I last downloaded a databse for the UK, it shouldnt really have French/Swiss on it, as that should be obvious! Wink

Other - ASC [ UK - Single file with all cameras | pMobiles: Yes | French: No | Swiss: No ]

Possessing a radar warning
The possession, transport and use of warning radars - which correlate data on the position of the radar with the actual position of the vehicle calculated by the GPS - is prohibited.
Just to frog the issue a bit more. It does NOT say that you can posess etc. one with another country's cams, so is it prohibited to posess etc. a device with UK cams on it in France?????

EDIT: Just read back a bit and found the smart a** MaFt had already beaten me to this one. However it seems that TT think that just removing the French cams will do, and we know how accurate they can be, don't we??? Twisted Evil

Yup, it IS obvious, but it's still true. You didn't get the French or Swiss data Wink Ergo it is not a bug Very Happy

It's something I'll look at 'improving' but the main aim of today was to allow users to 'reject' the French data if they did not want to take the risk.

MaFt

PS - just a cosmetic bug, but you missed an "a" out of "database" and missed an apostroph from "shouldn't" Wink

Darn it... but at least I'm being a man and admitting it instead of editing it! Yes, I know, I missed the 'e' from 'apostrophe'...

I know that these are early days and people are still juggling with the effect of the French government's decision but, trying to get my head around it all, does this seem a reasonable summary?

- It's now illegal to have a "device" which warns of Speed Cameras in France.
- It's Legal to have a device which warns of "Dangerous Zones".
- Dangerous Zones are specific areas within each Department as noted by the "Department Prefects".
- All Cameras are installed in a dangerous zone.
- Not all Dangerous Zones have a speed camera.

Q) Does a SatNav/SmartFone/etc. have to have all Dangerous Zones listed to be legal? or can we Cherry Pick just the zones which include the cameras?

I found this French Transport website informative (after a Google Translate!)

This is the main thing we're trying to find out from our French pals!

Remember that downloading the new version of the database without the French cameras is not enough to comply with the new French law.

You will also need to physically remove the old French data, otherwise it will stay on your Sat-Nav for ever!

I think there needs to be a big announcement to all subscribers to remind them of that.

I also notice that of late you seem to have found the shift key on your keyboard. I assume that it's because that you are getting oldder, wiser and less of rebel? Very Happy

OK. The law is this in France: you cannot be warned about a specific radar but it is legal to warn drivers that they are entering a radar zone. This is all designed to force drivers to stick to the speed limit since the government rightly or wrongly believes that excess speed causes most accidents (another possible argument here!). In fact the best bet really is just to have the warning that you are exceeding the local speed limit. Yes, all the beeping or whatever is a pain, but at least it will save you money as the fines have also been increased and I'm not sure that foreign drivers cannot lose points also! Certainly, if you drive in France, as a resident, on a UK licence, as many do, if you lose points, you are obliged to convert to a French licence. I expect eventually all EU driving licences will be subject to the same rules and penalties. In France they are gradually changing to a credit card type licence too.

The French data will be removed when the user updates the database. There are no changed or removed files, just the content of the files.

Is that so you can pay your fines more easily? Very Happy
