TomTom XL Live IQ routes and reflective screen

Hi all,

I have had my TomTom XL Live IQ for about 18 months and never had an issue with picking up satellites until today.

I picked up a new car toaday, a Vauxhall Insignia with a heat reflective windscreen. The signal was noticably weaker and sometimes I lose it for 30 or more seconds. If I move it away from the windscreen it picks up a full signal.

I know you used to be able to buy an antenna for earlier models and they had a socket on the back for this. I was wondering if there is such a thing for my TomTom. I have tried TT website which seems very unstable at the moment so not had any joy there.

The external antenna is only good for the Go 300, 500 and 700

The XL IQ Live doesn't have an external GPS socket, you might want to consider a GPS re-rad for the car (if you can find one), whilst technically they are illegal the signal they transmit is so low it would never be detected in a moving car - Mike

Thanks for the replies, I will bear the GPS re-rad in mind Mike.

I have done an update in TT home which seems to have helped slightly so I will see how it works over the next few weeks.

We see you’re using an ad-blocker. We’re fine with that and won’t stop you visiting the site.
