Should TomTom introduce HD Traffic Twitter channel ?

I'm investigating the public opinion concerning a future product - TomTom HD Traffic Twitter channel.

Could you share your opinion about this product with me?

What has HD traffic got to do with twitter?

TomTom should sort out their existing products and services before developing new. They seem to abandon products still in service.

I think the idea is you input details of the route you want to travel the night before you go.

Then by the miracles of twitter it sends the results of any traffic delays to you, when you turn your phone on in the morning so you know of any delays before you start off.

Just another gimmick to defelect attention from the appalling levels of service of late.

I may have got the wrong end of the stick here but I would have thought that TomTom would rather sell more HD Traffic devices and/or subscription than giving the data away for free via The Twitter...?!

I don't think they will do it, and as others have said they should get the product working on the devices that are supposed to be able to use it before messing about with stuff like this!

Surely it is more useful to send the relevant traffic information to the PND as HD Traffic info, which the PND can use to re-route the driver, if necessary, than to send it to a phone. What does the driver do when he gets the tweet? I suspect he'll feel like a twit as he tries to enter the traffic information into his PND!

I do not see any use for it.

But, you can see the marketing guys at TomTom rubbing hands with glee.

Their average guy is consdierate to his customers and colleagues.

He tweets his known route for the next day, safe in the knowledge that traffic conditions will be waiting for him when he gets up.

Then next morning, while eating his cornflakes, he will be tweeted about the traffic for his route that he had entered the night before, giving him plenty of time to replan his day accordingly.

He can call his first appointment in goodtime and let them know he will need to reschedule or be late due to the traffic.

the marketing hype will be usual claims at saving time and money!

Imagine being tweeted about an accident or traffic jam on a main road & then trying to work out exactly where it is to reroute the PND, and I certainly don't want to have to stop every time I'm tweeted about a holdup, I just want HD Traffic to work properly and reliably, that's what I pay for & why I'm prepared to pay

Aren't TomTom talking about integrating social feeds like Twitter into their devices?

So perhaps a way of thinking would be to 'tweet' your departure and destination via smart phone, desktop PC, laptop etc when your not in the car or with your PND, or even perhaps last thing at night before bed or when your sitting in the office?

Perhaps the route would then be pre-loaded on the PND if the twitter account is linked to the device?

I can't see the point in it personally. I'd much rather see them bring value for money to their HD service. E.g - My RDS unit is telling me of many road closures in my area (which are correct). No a single mention of any of them on my HD device. Rolling Eyes

Adding crap such as Twitter feeds to a sat nav is pointless, if anything it will attract more attention to the GPS devices from the authorites due to the odd morons who will try to use it while driving.

They (TomTom) need to take stock of their current position:

Devices that are inferior to those sold a couple of years ago.
Subscription based services that often fail to work.
Ability to change existing services without notification to subscribers (HD Traffic being one such example).

TomTom need to do something to get users to trust their products and services, adding stupid options such as Twitter isn't going repair faulty subscription based services.

At least when this crap is added to certain devices it won't include UK based users in the beginning - Mike

As others have said "Get HD traffic working on the paid sub devices" . What I want is real time dynamic traffic covering the whole route while Iam going from a to b.

This must be the worst online survey I have ever filled out. First I drive a Van, Second I subscribe to HD traffic and Third I don't belong to any social groups all of which I was never asked about in the survey.
