Any of the possible ways of reading road numbers is quicker and sounds better (to me!) is better than the TT Eh one thousand five hundred and ninety four!

I used to work in local government and the Highways Department referred to roads as Eh fifteen ninety four etc but I am happy with Eh one five nine four.

The rules I am using (posted many pages back) work fine for the GB and I map that I have except on those occasions when it reads out two road numbers were a road has two numbers. Not worth the effort to fix.

The playing around was fun! Thanks to Marvin and the others who did the work - my IT skills do not include regular expressions - they arent used on the mainframe and Windows systems I am mainly involved in.

DennisN - if you use a Mac then the current Mac operating system is built on Unix / Linux so you don't need to read your teach yourself book you referred to earlier!

Ah. Is that why it's so good and reliable and stuff? I've had a MacBook for several years, but never really got into using it much, but since getting the iMac in October I've been absolutely converted. My windoze laptop email has stopped working and I simply couldn't care less!

One thing though, I assume I am right that the cphoneme file updates at every map update so will have to be renamed every time the map is updated.


Just to go back to this, I changed the file name in map v860, and went into the 865 map to make the new change, and it was still cphoneme.old - so the change must transfer.

My original files would destimguish between 3000 (three thousand) and 3001 (three double oh 1 )

I'll try and recreate them with the new info i've learnt

For accuracy, " is better than the TT {way}" should read " is better than the OLD TT {way}".
The Navcore 10 models do read it out as we would say it (or a lot more closely anyway)

So TT have learnt something then!

I wonder if NavCore 10 will never be release for the Go series (I would be truly amazed if it did) or whether NavCore 9 will ever be updated.

TT really need to learn that their future lies in producing a product that works properly and professionally and that product is software.

Were your original files aimed at a UK only or a Western and Central Europe map?

I have tried Greenglide's extended lines for the rex file with my Western and Central Europe map and sadly it really isn't doing the trick and despite the unwanted appending of semi colon to various road number endings I'm still getting plenty of A roads and most B roads read out the old way even though some A roads are now read out correctly as A Two One Seven and not A Two Hundred and Seventeen. However on the whole I would rather put up with the old wrong way than suffer the semi colons.

So anyhow I'm looking forward to trying your five further enhanced files instead of Greenglide's rex file modifications if they are intended at a Western and Central Europe map?

The extra lines for the .rex file were produced by Marvin at my request as they implement a slightly different interpretation of the numbers, I did some minor tweaks to them..

The latest version works for the GB and I map but have issues with the Western Europe map. It should be the same issues as the place where the extra rules are inserted "shouldnt" matter.

I beleive the current content is :-

Sorry got this wrong. On installing the new map, cphoneme.old transfers from the old map, but a new cphoneme.dat file is also present.

Hi its been a while since I last posted i'm looking to buy a zūmoŽ 220 and was wondering if anyone here can tell me if the zumo suffers from the Pronunciation "one hundred and twenty-four" instead of "one two four" problem as the tomtom? and if so can the fix's here also be used to fix that unit?

I am not convinced a TT thread is the place to find out about the zūmoŽ 220.

It seems unlikely that it will use the same system as TT so any limits would tend to be different - does it do Text To Speech anyway?

I dont think the contents of this thread would help apart from giving you point to look for!
