Thanks both for the info but why the need to force a critical update? surely if it’s that critical it should be offered automatically ..but that’s TomTom for you i suppose

I think you need to have the 'automatically start Home on connection' or whatever it is set, to be offered it without prompting.

Mac version is 2.8.0.1019

This version of home start bringing up repeated messages about malformed data which was referring to the original LMG 815 North America download of around two years ago. I had to move this from the Home complete downloads directory to stop the message appearing. I have no idea why this suddenly started but there is nothing wrong with this download.

When I had mine set to automatic update, I was offered new Home versions on connection. Now I'm set to a more manual option and have to check in Help/ check for home update. Maybe TT has changed things again?

Ditto I also manually checked tonight (Jan 8th 2011) for updates in Home 2.7 something or other and was offered this update to v2.8.0.2146 but after installing it I am now also getting a whole bunch of malformed data messages in relation to the North America map v835 (which would have been updated to that version via the LMG in June 2009) when I run Check For Updates.

Can the idiots at TomTom software development do absolutely nothing right and do they not test anything before releasing it out in to the wild. Evil or Very Mad

Here are the error messages.

I notice that under Home Preferences/Advanced that the "Inform me when beta-releases are available for installation" box was ticked.

As this update wasn't offered automatically but only when I asked Home to check for updates is there any possibility that this defective 2.8 version is only a Beta release? Although I have now unticked the "I nform me of beta-releases box there seems to be no way to foll back to the previous 2.7 version of Home that I had installed.

Surely that depends on whether or not 2.8 is now the official version as if it is that is what TomTom will now be offering on their website.

I also tried moving the North American latest map guarantee folder dating from 18 months ago elsewhere as suggested but it did no good and I still get the same errors when checking for the latest Updates for my 940.

The version on the website will be the latest official NON-beta version.

Well firstly we don't know if v2.8 is a Beta or not do we?

Unfortunately they only seem to be offering something called 1.6 for Navigator 6 at www.tomtom.com/services/service.php?id=16&tab=87 What on earth is that? Or are TomTom so utterly technically incompetent in all respects (even whilst granting that they so have a slick and well oiled marketing machine to shift their poorly constructed pieces of tat with bug ridden firmware) that they also haven't updated the wording of their download page to the actual version of Home now in use?

I notice there is also no mention of the web version of Home for the 1000 series on that web page. Or is v3 of Home only accessed by going to a TomTom website with a suitable user name and password and not by downloading any software?

The 1.6 download is a seperate Download for Navigator 6 for Windows devices. You want the download above that with the blue download button.

In the time it took you to moan about tomtom you could have uninstalled your current version and reinstalled the version off the website.
