Any way to recover them?

Have you got a recent backup?? - If so consider changing the file type to a custom POI file as thats far better at remaining usable post connection to Home.

There is a guide on converting the existing Favourites file to custom POI format in the FAQ page which you will find in the sticky threads at the top of this forum section index - Mike

If you do have a backup try copy/pasting back to the device the file called mapsettings.cfg that you will find within the map folder.

Before you actually do that rename the current mapsettings.cfg in the map folder of the device to something like oldmapsettings.cfg.

Everything should work, it normally does, there maybe a problem in rare cases of the device rebooting, search the forum for how to cure that problem if it happens.

This "feature" has been fixed in the new NavCore 9. The problem with the mapsettings.cfg file not transferring after a map update is a very common one. I think this is the third thread this week. It would appear from comments in the other threads that most, if not all, are no longer experiencing this problem. I certain didn't.

As a once upon a time programmer/analyst its a problem I cannot understand at all.

TT may have used the excuse we needed to change the format of the file so we automatically deleted the old one and created a new empty one in the correct format.

A weak excuse in my opinion why not save the data from the existing file and write it out in the revised format to the new file.

I could just imagine what my customers would have said if during an update to a payroll system the layout of something like an employee file needed to be changed (As it often did) so you just deleted the old one and created a new empty one then tell my customer you will have reenter all of your employee details again.

To be fair they may do that but perhaps if they find data in the file that cannot be converted for whatever reason they just get rid of everything and start again.

The intention was to transfer the data each time. However a bug meant it was hit or miss if the file would transfer ok. Out of five or six map updates pre-NavCore 9 it didn't transfer for me. On one of those occasions the old file caused the unit to reboot until I did the Home trick. On another occasion the file from a backup worked and another I had to start from scratch. It appears TomTom have (hopefully) sorted out whatever it was that sometimes caused the problem.
