Darren sums it up in a nut-shell. Smile

If you need further help, you can use the instructions or the video help intended for installing the Speed camera database, as the concept is just the same.

Installation Guide

Installation Guide (If you have a TomTom with text to speech voices and really wanted speech warnings)

Video Guide

You'll probably not need to do the "warn when near" set up though, (unless you want a warning when a McDonalds comes close!) so you only need the first part of the instructions.

I have some POI downloaded from TT Home about 2 years ago which are outdated now. Is it best to delete everything on that folder and just use the Pocket world ones?

If you mean your map folder then don't delete everything, you'll lose your map!

Only delete the files with .ov2 extensions to their names and the ones with .bmp extensions and the same names.***

Alternatively, you can delete those POI categories using the TomTom's own menus (Change prefs / Manage POIs/Delete POI category)

*** If you cannot see the extensions when looking at the files with Windows Explorer, you need to enable the correct view in Windows Explorer or My Computer:

To get Windows to show you the three letter extensions to the file names, do this:
Start either 'My Computer' or 'Windows Explorer' and:
Go to the 'Tools' Menu,
Select 'Folder Options'
Select the 'View' tab
Scroll down the list of entries and UN-tick "Hide extensions for known file types"

(While you are there, you could also TICK 'Show hidden files and folders" too. While not strictly necessary, this will let you see EVERYTHING on your PC's and TomTom's storage).

The above is for Windows XP, I the process is pretty similar for Vista...
Click Computer to get a display of your drive letters then at the top left of this screen is a button labelled "Organize" click this then select the "View" tab and continue as above.

hey guys
dunno where im going wrong here but i have downloaded the poi's i want and have copied them to my maps folder on my TOMTOM One IQ Routes nav.

however, i cannot find them on the nav?

the poi's downloaded from TOMTOM Home are in a folder called "POI"

any ideas?

1. do i need to move the poi's from "map" folder to "poi" folder?

2. the other problem is how do i activate them on the nav? i have followed the help guidance on the forum but this is not solving the issue as there is no "enable/disable poi" option

help would be appreciated

cheers

The OV2 and BMP Files go into the Folder named something like United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland, or whatever Map you are currently using.

The map and poi Folders are used by HOME for storing Information Files, usually with a TLV extension.

Where are you looking for the Enable/Disable POI function? It's found in 2 places. In Change Preferences, Manage POIs, and also in Browse Map, Options, POI.

It sounds very much like you can't enable your new POIs because you have put the files in the wrong folder. As Oldboy said, they don't go in the folder called "map" or "poi", but in the folder which has the same name as the map that you are currently using.

Do you mean the black/white icons? This is normal for the poi.dat entries.

Are these the ones you couldn't find, to Enable, earlier?

If not have you copied the OV2 and BMP Files to the correct Folder, as in my previous Post.

If you have, then how many OV2 Files do you have in your Current Map Folder. There is a limit of 269 on some units.

Yes

No, these were automatically enabled through TT Home and are the only POI's that appear in color on the TT

Copied te OV2 and BMP files to the folder which holds my UK "Map" folder.

I have 200files copied into the "map" folder which is the "food & drink" POI Category with all sub-categories also.

The problem still remains, how do i "enable" when there is no option on the TT ONE IQ Routes to do so???

cheers for help thus far

First, let's get the location where you are putting the files completely straight....

Can you tell us the EXACT name of the folder where you've copied the files to? (it shouldn't be called "map")

Secondly, you say there is "no option to enable POIs" but Oldboy pointed you to two different places in the menus where you can do it. Are those not showing on your menus?

Copied files to....
- Computer - TomTom - Maps
- Within "Maps" there is a TLV File - UK and Rep of Ire

I have checked the followings also,

Change Preferences - Manage POI - ...
- Add POI
- Warn when near POI
- Delete POI
- Edit POI
- Add POI Category
- Delete POI Category
(no "enable/disable" option)

Browse Map - Options - Choose POI's
- this just lists the standard POI that came stock with the unit
- and those POI's that I have downloaded from TT Home
(no "enable/disable" option)

Confused

My error Embarassed

The option to Show POI on map is on Page 1 of Change Preferences.

My apologies.

It doesn't actually say Enable/Disable on this screen. The screen heading is Show POI category on map.

If the categories are not listed then it means that either the files are in the wrong place, (see the first point above), or that there are too many categories.

Think i may have to leave this in 2010!

Files are in the right place, folder etc

but

still not showing up. Ive gone to "Show POI on Map" also, from "Change Preferences" and still no joy - they arent listed there.

I have removed the other category and only installed the "Cinema/Entertainment" POI's - still no joy

My TT One has 26.2mb available mb of RAM of 64mb

Really lost as to how, why and what is not making this work?

Anyone else using the TT One IQ Routes Edition?

If you have put the files in a folder called maps then they are in the wrong place. Forget the .tlv file - this is a red herring.

The files must be copied to the folder called UK & Republic of Ireland.
