Well, this is my first post...and by the look of things it won't be my last. You have been a great resource so far, but I cannot get my gps working. I have the Belkin unit which i understand is a rebranded Fortuna. I have been messing with it for a week with no luck. Right now i'm trying Mapopolis, but I've also tried the software shipped with it (Navigation System).
I've tried every combination of settings (com ports and baud rates). Com 6 is my outbound port and it is the one that seems to be communicating with the GPS unit. But my software still hasn't given me a reading yet. It finally occurred to me that the GPS light hasn't turned green and this is probably the reason, not my settings.
I've read a couple posts about this happening, and things just seem to work out after some time. I'm hoping someone can offer me some advice so that I can finally get this working. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance, Vince

I take this is a BlueTooth receiver. Have you done the bonding and service discovery in the BlueTooth Manager yet?

yeah, I guess I should have mentioned that it was bluetooth. I have used the Bluetooth Manager to pair them multiple times. I even tried doing a hard reset and repaired them. I'm thinking the problem has to do with the BT unit because I can't get the green light to appear telling me it found a satellite in ST mode

Don't worry about the sats just yet. First you need to make sure that the devices are talking to each other. What happens when you connect the Pocket PC to the serial port of the receiver? can you use Crux_view or similiar to see if the NMEA sequences are coming through?

When I connect to the outbound port (6), the bluetooth light on the GPS unit blinks rapidly/stays lit. When I connect to the inbound port (8), the Mapopolis program seems to freeze up on Checking COM8. I hadn't heard of the Crux_View program, but I downloaded it tonight and I will install it tomorrow morning. I'll let you know how that goes.
Thank you so much for the help, Vince

Don't forget, you are consuming the SPP service of the receiver, therefore you need to focus on the outbound port. COM8 sounds about right...but that's on my old 3970. Not sure if the 4350 has the same BT stack, or if it uses different ports.

Ok, so I ran Crux_View and I set it to my outbound Com6 port. I also tried com8 which is my inbound port, with no luck. I received the message "Read Error!!Reset GPS?" When I reset it, it gave me the message again. Does this mean something?

Hmm. Maybe your receiver is set to the SiRF protocol... Any chance you can hard reset it (take out its battery and let it sit there for a while) to get it back to the factory settings?

That was it...thank you so much. I'm going to keep messing with it, but I think you just ended a week of fustration. I'm inside my office, but i'm still picking up at least 5 satellites.

Thanks again, Vince

Vince, now that you're up and running, you should flash XT mode to v2. I also have the Belkin variant of the Clip-on, and it is a very worthwhile upgrade that I just performed yesterday! You likely won't use ST mode again.
