I've had my 950 for a few months now, and since I went on holiday in Spain in July, it freezes with monotonous regularity. Yesterday, I had 4 freezes in an hour - the first before I'd even reached the end of my road.

I'm now getting really fed up with it. Any advice?

Make a full Windows Explorer back up of the device then format the unit, use the normal format rather than the quick format option, then re-install the backup to the device.

Try the restore factory defaults from the menu is another option to try, if you do this you will have to re-enter your username, passwords and Home location etc - Mike

Thanks Mike, will try that

Tom you are not alone. I've found it tends to happen more when receiving phone calls. Sometimes the freeze is more subtle than a freeze and it's the GPS software that locks up. The only action that recovers it is a hard reset (on/off button for several seconds)

I'd dump the thing back at Halfords but the 950, when it's working, is just too good a device to be without.

I had this problem , what I did was to delete the quick gps fixes and also delete the petrol prices , try that also delete the ones that are on your pc , it was Tom Tom who told me to do this and it worked. then the next time you connect your device to home it should offer you the gps and petrol prices again.

I found a few weeks ago that a map share POI correction download caused this on my 940. I do not know if that was one bad download or POI corrections in general, but I have stopped using POI corrections from map share.

Out of interest MrT, how have you fixed it?
Did you physically remove the POI corrections from the map folder (all the files named "CAxxxx.ov2") or did you use Home to remove them, or just slide the corrections preference slider to "strict"?

In the options for POI updates, I just made sure that for the type of POI updates, all were deselected. Some had been selected without my doing so.

I do not remember deleting (or seeing) any CA**.ov2 files but several times I have deleted all OV2s when I have had problems. I cannot find any of these files in any of my numerous backups.

You won't have seen them for at least two years or more, since they stopped supplying the POI corrections via Mapshare.

I did get a few on a v850 map when they started up a gain a few weeks ago, but don't have any at all again, now I've updated to v855 maps.

It was the 850 maps where I noticed the problem.

Hi, guys.

I took all of this on board and did the following. Full explorer back up, then formatted the 950. On my pc, I deleted all of the tomtom speed camera files, and all of the petrol price files, then copied what was left back onto the 950. I then disabled mapshare.

Over the last two days, I have driven three long sectors (Home to the channel tunnel, then to Rouen, then on day two to Limoges)

Not so much as a stutter to the navigation. Everything worked as advertised and it appears I now have a Satnav again.

A huge thank you to all who helped

Having said that all was fine, I had a weird fault today. Set off from Limoges back to UK and the 950 appeared to be working perfectly, except that the arrival time kept changing to later and later. I finally noticed that although it was navigating fine, and giving me perfect instructions, the distance to run hadn't changed from when I set off. Switching off and on had no effect, and it took a "drum-roll" reset to get it working. Since then (6 hours ago) it has behave impeccably.
