Personally I think its bad news, re the comment under the picture... "Police in Swindon stepped in when the council cancelled camera funding"

One possibility is now the Police will spend even less time "protecting our homes and property" and doing "proper police jobs" ... Also now they can justify buying even move "fast cars" and driving up and down the M's to "protect" us from speed

I prefer the cameras, because of legislation they had rules for where they could go and at least we had ways (such as this database GPS systems) to know where they where ....

Take this away and IMHO .. any bit of any road in Oxford could have a copper "saving us"

I'm ignoring the "...concerned that the withdrawal of Oxfordshire from the Partnership may impact on the number of serious collisions in the county" aspect of this move by Oxford, however I read that when Swindon removed their cameras accidents stayed at same levels.. possible even reduced in some areas

As the accident level did not go down when Swindon stopped using the cams, it mythbusts the theory that 'sudden braking at the camera' causes more accidents that the cam prevents. But I suspect that this mythical 'reason' will still be trotted out endlessly.
If you have to 'brake suddenly' at a cam, then you were going too fast, and if you run into the back of someone who 'brakes suddenly' you were following too close. Either way, the 'accident' is your fault, not that of the camera.
