Got it sorted now.

The Satmap site seems to have been acting rather strangely of late, don't know whether it's me or them.

Software updated.

There is no improvement that I can find in the "Big Thick Orange Route Problem".

I was desperately hoping for that.

Hope the rubber case is not too far behind.

I've just caught up with this release news - I am extremely distressed to read:

"The following amendments to the software are contained in v1.450:
................
Backlight no longer goes above 80% in Advanced Power Mode"

What the heck are they thinking of? I lobbied long and hard to get full screen brightness together with the power saving "Advanced" mode.

If this is true, it's the begining of the end for the Satmap for me!

I hope I'm misunderstanding this somehow!

I think you can still press the full brightness button and get 100% if you need it. Just not have it at 100% all the time.

That was the arrangement before they allowed us to have full brightness on Advanced Power save mode; it was next to useless when cycling, as the tiny button is difficult to access, wholly useless when wearing full finger gloves since the tiny button just embeds itself in the glove. In strong light, on a bike's handlebars, the screen is very hard to read and with a route activated, it's sometimes impossible to see what you need to. Having to press that button every time you want to look at it is just unacceptable. Limiting it to 80% of backlight is senseless.

If this is where we're going, I'm looking again at a Garmin Oregon

I must admit, I thought that one of the features of advanced power was that brightness was restricted to 80%. It's a long time since I read that part of the manual.

What's advanced power mode for:

Max screen brightness? - you can set the brightness anyway.
Turn off north up display - again, there's a button for it.
4 second fix interval. - this is useful and there is no otherway to get it. You then lose the north up option and now have limited brightness.

I think that we just need the option to toggle the fix interval and we can set the other two manually. I have long thought that the 1 second interval just invites noise in the trail when walking, making it possible to travel a mile while eating a pub lunch . Cycling is adifferent matter, so we need the choice.

- Pull out the battery
- Connect USB cable
- Run the Upgrade a few times - until it eventually cleared the message.
