just installed new map on tomtom go 730 via tomtom home, after install i went in to put the speed cameras voices and distances back to as i wanted them, checked the settings in demo mode via tomtom home and all was good, well as i though

i went to use it later only to find that there was no voice warnings only the normal warning tones, horns, bells ect
checked back in tomtom home and all seemed fine, so i decided to check via the unit itself, only to find that the distances was correct as i set them, but the voices were not (although tomtom home say they were ) so i had to do it all via the unit

i know a lot of you don't like or trust tomtom home, but i have not experienced that problem before
so is there a way to store my speed camera settings so they don't get lost on map updates, or if they do a quicker way to restore them

many thanks

loro

Don't set up the camera warnings using Home as it won't work correctly, simply do it on the PND by tapping the options on the screen for each camera category - Mike

Only use Home where you have no alternate method, in the case of setting up speed camera warnings you need to do them on the device not a virtual device through Home.

As for the file containing the settings its called "MapSettings.cfg" and resides in the "Western_Europe" map folder - Mike

so correct me if i got this wrong, i go into the map folder in explorer save the file "mapsettings.cfg" on computer or any other storage device, and when the time comes, import that file back into the map folder in the new map, if and when i get one, and that will restores my voices and distances.............loro

You should always back up the device and/or card before installing new maps, so if you copy the "mapsettings.cfg" file from that backup to the new map folder you'll be using the most up-to-date version.

Do the backup using Windows Explorer as this way you can have multiple back ups, the TomTom Home back up is a waste of computer storage space and time - Mike
