What is it's "situation"? I mean does it appear to be a speed camera or a redlight camera (near lights)? Are there any road markings or signs nearby giving any indication as to it's use? Are there any maker's stamps etc on it?
EDIT: By the way, please could you reduce the size of the images and link to them (about 400 pixels wide is about all the forum can easily show without scrolling). _________________ Gerry

Does that little badge in the middle of the pole look like this? Company in Portishead near Bristol makes them (the poles and cases).

It is situated on a set of lights, which used have a right light camera, I have submitted it to the speed camera list.
There no markers on the road after the lights ! Nothing to indicate its being used for speeding.
I have reduce the size of the pictures I hope that's about the right size. |

The company makes poles/cases for other people to put cameras into. It will surely be either redlight or speed depending on the location/layout - normally roadmarkings = speed, just lights = redlight.
For best page results, you should reduce your pictures to 450 wide x whatever, whereas yours are 768 x 1024 - in my Photoshop Elements program, changing the width will automatically adjust the height proportionately. _________________ Dennis

Apart from the yellow paint job, it's identical to the camera at the test site outside Asda on the A3 near Kingston (see HERE (forth picture down onwards in my post on page 2 of a 6 page topic!). I wonder if this means it has type-approval and the Asda one will be 'live' soon?
There are also a couple of live ones similar to these near me on the North Circular Road, covering a huge junction from some very odd angles and distances. Can't remember the ID numbers off-hand. |

So what do you see when you approach it as it looks grey on the back suggesting you don't see yellow untill you see red!
Or is it a handy place to put a sign / symbol. _________________ Dom

Looks like there's a convenient towing eye at the base of the post. Assuming it's not for yanking the thing out of the ground, what might it be for? |

It is one of the 'StreetSmart' types. They have a number of design variant.
Interestingly the mounting base/poles for almost all the fixed cameras regardless of design are manufactured by CrownUK. Why they all use a common design I'm not sure. Either it is just a very good solution or perhaps someone took a nice little backhander to ensure they got the contract?
Oh and the towing eye is the lock shackle on the door. That door opens to allow the camera head to be lowered for access/servicing _________________ Darren Griffin |

More likely to be for installation, to lift what is a very heavy hunk of metal by crane. They tend to lift them from the mid section as they are bottom heavy.
or maybe a bit of both. _________________ Dom

I see. Nicely painted yellow, but not the bit that the unsuspecting driver can see |

I've seen a new style camera. Its positioned about three foot to the side of an existing gatso (gatso53@40 Broadway Royton) pointing in the same direction. It has the Gatso label on the back of the camera/device but doesn't look like anything I've seen before. I didn't get chance to photograph it, but it looks like an ANPR type camera or a specs type camera mounted at the same hight as the gatso on a thinner mast & all painted in grey. Anyone got any idea what its for or what it does? |
