HTC Touch Pro 2 (Windows Mobile 6.1) Location Software

I have just got an HTC Touch Pro2 which runs Windows Mobile 6.1.

I would like to obtain software which would give me UK OS Grid References and a compass heading from the inbuilt GPS system.

I do not need fancy mapping software. I just need to know where I am and which way I am going.

Any Help or pointers appreciated.

Welcome to the forum, take a look at what GPS Speed Sentry can offer as it ticks all the boxes you want, in fact its far more capable, a great application well worth trying and its not going to break the bank!

I tried Speed Sentry (Trial), but it could not find any satellites. It said something about Port not available.

The GPS seems to work as when I used Google Maps, it identified where I was.

Any ideas

Try installing a GPS port splitter application to the phone such as Fransons GPS Gate, there are other free ones available if you are on a budget and use this to strat the GPS receiver on the phone.
For some reason GPS Speed Sentry seems to struggle starting the GPS receiver on certain HT based devices, I have used Franson to overcome this in the past on certain phones - Mike

I can easily see me getting out of my depth here, as my computing days are behind me.

Thanks also to Richard_M_W for his suggestions and finding the Rhodium forum.

If only google maps, could somehow use the info from multimap, I would be home and dry.

It is not so much budget, but I have maps and occasionally I get a bit lost when walking and a GPS Grid Reference helps to work out where I am and if I have a Compass heading, makes it even easier.

Thanks again to both of you and if you have any other ideas, about getting a simple grid reference and compass heading, they would be most appreciated, as one of my justifications for purchasing the phone was =' it has built in GPS' - and my better half has yet to be convinced of the cost !!!!

On the Touch Pro 2, the GPS receiver can be found at COM4 at 4800 Baud.

Excellent. GPS Speed Sentry now works.

I would still like to obtain something like GPS Speed Sentry, but with UK Grid references. I have tried to use the lat/long references with OS Explorer maps and it is possible to pin point one's location, but grid references would be easier.

Richard, what software are you trying to get OSGB grid refs for? both Quo and Speed Sentry can display coords in this format? - Mike

Many thanks and also many apologies for being so stupid. I just assumed what was the basic displays was all you got. I then found Menu and then Units - Eureka - what i wanted in the first place, which you had pointed me too.

I eat much humble pie and I will now register Speed Sentry to get it to work for more than 10 minutes.

Glad to hear you have worked it out, GPS Speed Sentry is cracking application and well worth the very small outlay for the full version, combine it with the speed camera database for use in the car and its very effective both on and off road - Mike
