I had a wired GPS reciever set up and all I'm left with is the PDA (Dell Axim X5 - non Blue Tooth) and the TomTom disks and the like. This is where the questions begin - my car insurance company don't cover itens that valuable and the house insurance lot won't cover any kit specifically for the car!

What are my options in terms of repacing the kit?

I need something that's completely mobile (as in not car dedicated) and works with the TomTom software that I already have. Also ideally I'd like the option of powering it all from the car if possible and maybe having an external antenna if needed?!

I've seen various Compact Flash GPS recievers but being a complete novice I don't know whether they are compatible with TomTom or can be powered via the car as well as being mobile?!

Cheers for your help!

Your options are a bluetooth or CF GPS receiver. I just got a Dconnex BC-307 from Ebay for under £50. Seems to work ok.

Sorry to hear of your loss mate.
I too have an Axim X5 and a wired GPS. Mine is a Haicom 303MMF and it works fine with TomTom on the X5. It is both CF and has the benefit of connecting to the serial port on the bottom of the X5 so you can put it on the dash when in the car. It is powered from the cig lighter with a special cable that connects to the GPS and the Dell so they both get powered.

If you need any help then let me know.

Steve
