Hi,

I've just bought one of these devices. Got the latest maps and software (8.414) and I'm actually happy with it so far (only a couple days!).

My query is re the TMC. I've used one before for my GO510 with pretty much zero result - it was pants. This aerial is totally different as the power lead actually goes through the TMC to get to the at sat nav itself. It hasn't got an egg shape either.

Anyway, driving from Stoke on Trent to Warrington I get nothing on the TMC until just after the Thelwall Viaduct. Then I get a strong connection for the rest of the journey (not much left of it though). About 5% of the journey had a connection.

Driving back from Warrington to Stoke was a different story. I had a connection for about 90% of the journey. In Stoke on I lost the signal. The whole motorway and more was fine.

This has been the case for two days now. Why do I get no signal from Stoke to Warrington? The only difference is that I'm driving on the other side of the relevant roads!

cheers

Consider the positioning of your antenna. Maybe you've got it too close to the side pillar of the car and that's blocking the signal in one direction? Needs to be at least a couple of inches clear of the windscreen frame. Also perhaps experiment with the layout. Mine works fine as an L shape, starting with the device mid-bottom of windscreen, antenna runs along the bottom to passenger side, then vertically up to the top, with more than two inches gap from the frame.

My previous layout was this - the green line, from bottom right to centre, then vertically to top centre. Now it's moved leftwards.

I have one of the older type aeriels in my 730 and I don't bother laying it out - it just flops around in the passenger footwell. Travelling from Rochdale to Bracknell, I get a signal within 2 minutes of leaving home and it stays active all across the M62/m60/m62/m6/m42/m40/A404/M4.

Coming back it takes around 10 minutes to find a signal and then is OK all the way home.

So, the transmission is OK (for me), so what is different about your device, your aeriel or your car (mine is a BMW 320)

I run mine up the front right pillar under the plastic trim then along the top of the windscreen all under the trim so you can't see any wire at all.

Never had a problem getting a signal within two minutes of starting the car.
