Apologies if already here (can't find it).

I've installed 2.7. When I go to run it, I get this message:

Tom TomHOMERuntime.exe failed with error 0: Process failed to start up correctly.

If this problem persists, please install from:
http://www.tomtom.com/home

I've had this problem with a previous upgrade. I went back to version 1.5xxx to overcome.

Any ideas anyone??

The only thing I could find was This, and the resultant reply. It might help.

Thanks - I had a look and you need to pay a chunk for it. Plus it looks like something not entirely trustworthy.

I have also tried installing 2.7 on my laptop, but without joy. I have logged with TT and have had a couple responses with things to try.
Strange as I can get 2.2 to work fine, but anything later = the same error message... across a laptop and a PC.

Im waiting to hear back from TT support...

try the following

First make sure you have a windows back up of your tomtom

Close tomtom Home then clear your temp file Get a run prompt type %temp% in the new file press crtl & A the delete key. There may be a couple of files that can not be deleted but thats ok you next download and save the latest version of tomtom home from the website. Save it to a known location.
If you did this before make sure you delete the previous down load before you start again otherwise you may retain the same corruption.

Uninstall the corrupt verson of tomtom home using the uninstall procedure.
Shutdown and restart

Run the set up from the newly downloaded file. I would recommend that you change the default loaction ( C:\programe files\tomtom home 2.7) to something like C:\tomtom home

Hopefully it will install clean and you will be able to get it working

Thanks Exportman, your solution has worked a treat, been trying and giving up to solve this problem for a while now.
PS that program recommended in another link to fix the registry and Run Time Errors is no good for solving ths problem.
Thanks again Exportman

Can you expand on those instructions a bit, please?

I THINK you mean:
Go to the Start menu,
select "Run"
type %temp% in the box and select OK
Then in the new window file press crtl & A (to select all) [then[/b] the delete key.

Is that right?

In other words, the "%temp%" stuff is just a clever quick way to get to
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp, yes?
And does this avoid any problems with the user not having Explorer set to show hidden files and folders?

Just trying to get my head round it, in case I want to pass your solution on in the future (with a suitable credit, of course! Smile )

Thats exactly what I did Andy_P and it worked a treat, but I did have my system set up to show hidden files already.

Hi

Yes the instruction %temp% will find the temp file where ever it is
Ctrl + A is the windows short cut to select all files.

When you down load a file it makes a temp copy if thats corruped every time you down load it checks if the file exists if it does it will not overwrite it so you keep trying to install the same file. Its a good idea to clear the temp file every few weeks especially if your machine shuts down unexpectedly sometimes.

Note Vista onwards by default saves files downloaded from the internet in C:\users\*username\downloads *= your sign on name eg john
if you are having problems in Vista with downloads may be worth looking for this file just type downloads in the search box
