Is it possible to change the warning tone for the traffic update so that when the traffic changes on your route it can be somthing different than the polite tone you hear . This is for the LIVE traffic updates.

If you know how to hack the data.chk file then you can change the sound used, its not that easy and takes quite a bit of messing around so I wouldn't bother to be honest - Mike

I was going to post a link to some instructions on modifying the data.chk file, but I can't seem to find one now (only several for creating your own voice files dataxx.chk).

Can anyone remind me?

The easy way was to use something called (IIRC) POIExtend but this needed modifying with each new navcore update, its an old application that seemed to disapear when Ray Flanigans web site closed - his choice and the prime reason behind this was piracy of the excellent voice files he had spent time creating.
Our own Liz Whitaker voices as well as quite a few others were from this web site which Ray kindly gave over some time ago.

As far as I know there is no current easy way to alter this file other than messing around with a hex edittor and working out the file structure - its not difficult but it would take a while.

Best option is to get the device reading out the traffic delays on your route rather than the simple beep Wink - Mike

My device now announces (nudge, nudge) changes in the traffic situation instead of the stupid beep (which is identical to the TT cameras warning stupid beep).

No that's just how to USE the modified data.chk file that this site used to generate.
All the other sites tell you how to make a voice file, and I don't think you can use the same techniques to modify data.chk itself.

However... Mike's mention of "POIExtend" jogged my memory!

I find I still have a copy of "POIExtended Warnings" and "Extract TTN" (plus .pdf instructions) on my PC which seem to be the right tools for the job.
Now, if I don't have the original installer, how can I get them in a state where I could share them (if that's allowed?)

Andy, don't bother as the data.chk audio file allocation changed with each itteration of Navcore, the application had to be re-compiled for each release so its well out of date by now, as I recall the POIExtend app used to "steal" unused storage from the MapSettings.cfg" file in order to work so with the advances made over the past two years this is really a dead duck.
If you fancy using a Hex edit application to view the contents of a few ogg Vorbis files and the data.chk file you will work it out but it is like playing Sodoku with a blindfold until the penny drops Laughing

Just use Kate for guidance and you will be fine - Mike

Yes it did, didn't it...

I wasn't going to bother myself, just thought if1977' might want to have a go if he was desperate.

Might suggest it as an improvement....
