I have a MIO P550 PDA and a Garmin TMC receiver with a Mini-USB plug.

The 2 units communicate OK using the original cables, and the receiver works well.

However, I want to incorporate the TMC receiver into the amplified car holder/charger I already have, but don't want to destroy the original cables.

To enable the PDA to recognise the TMC receiver, I need a Mini-USB cable which has all 5 pins wired OR has Pin 4 connected to Pin 5 (or Pin X connected to Pin 4, depending on how the pins are defined - I've seen both ways specified, during my research !)

The problem is that most Mini-USB cables have only the 4 'normal' pins (+V, DATA+, DATA-, -VE) wired, leaving the 5th pin not connected.

Does anyone know of a supplier of a suitable cable ?

(The connector at the other end of the cable is irrelevant, as I'll be soldering directly to the TMC circuit board.)

I've already tried 'modifying' a connector (by bridging the connections with a minute amount of solder), which resulted in much melting of plastic - and I'm not an amateur !

Also, all the 'loose' connectors I've seen do not have the required pin brought out.

You could make a cable up yourself using the correct plug from Maplin.

Have a look HERE (opens in a new window).

It may well say '5-pin mini USB plug' in the description (which it IS), but only 4 of the pins have solder pads, and the 5th pin is not accessible at any point where it could sensibly be soldered to the adjacent pin - Guess how I found this out ?!

As I say, 'all the 'loose' connectors I've seen do not have the required pin brought out.' - but thanks for the suggestion.

Any other thoughts, anyone ?

Did not realise that the plugs had only 4 solder tabs.

This web site HERE gives some info on pin outs.

And I thought that they were all the same - silly me Embarassed
