My dad would like a Sat Nav for his motorbike that he can easily program the route he would like to take. This could possibly be done on a PC and then uploaded to the unit or done on the unit itself. He wants to take B roads of his choice rather than the main roads. I have Tom Tom v5 on a HP IPAQ HX4700 PDA but we found this very difficult to add all the roads that he wanted to use.

Does a unit exist or GPS software that could be loaded on the HP IPAQ HX4700 that has this kind of functionality?

Many Thanks

Hi

I do what you ask quite regularly.

I plan the route on Google earth/maps with pins then the using a program called TYRE I import it into Tomtom as a itinerary file ( place in a folder called INT )

Go to Itunerary planning ( second screen) and load the itn file.
I always run a demo at 500% just to make sure the route works

I find it best not to place pins close to junctions and also make sure they are on the correct side of the road.

Use this link to get TYRE free http://www.tyre.tk/

Good luck

And should you choose to use a Garmin (model #'s beginning with a 5, 7, 8 or 14), you have your choice of using the device itself to build the custom route, going on-line at Mapquest, or using Garmin's own Mapsource program.

The simple but very effective Garmin Quest (not Quest 2 or US model with smaller memory) is regularly found on eBay and biking websites for under £100. It's cheap and easy to mount using RAM products and will beaver away for a couple of days without recharging. RAM also sell a little dohicky to help get the audio on it's way to your helmet
