biatone x350 - street search

have bought one of these as a no frills sat nav for the wife to use at work.
one thing i have found frustrating with the binatone is when searching for a street without entering a postcode.
surely if you select city first it would narrow down your search eg if i put in manchester then smith street why does it have to bring up all the smith streets that are not in manchester.
it seems pointless using the city selection first.
i didnt expect th earth to move with this device and understand that full 7 digit postcode is the way forward, but surely this is basic filtering.

has anyone used this device, has any other views would be appreciated.
