Already made a full backup of the TT before you ask using TT Home. Stop it!

And that's where you are heading into uncharted waters. Do another backup NOW, only this time simply copy everything from your TT to your PC using Windows Explorer - create a folder/directory on the PC called TTBackup2009-03-08 to copy into. Next time you do a backup (with Win Explorer always) give it a different date ID. Some use the date, others use a description. Whatever you prefer, but do backups using Windows Explorer and give each backup a new, unique folder/directory name.

Give me a step by step account and I'll try that, ie do they all go in the same location?

You might have to ask him a bit more nicely than that.... Shocked

Trying to make head or tail of this --

I have a 740Live -- just purchased..
it has on it v815.2003 map -- WaCE 2GB = 1555MB

I have read all the stuff on the pages --about the new 825.2157 map
-- I can not understand if this a "better" or a watered down version ??

Have things been taken out of this map over the previous version..??

If so what is the point of getting it??

May seem daft questions..

Maurice

Why would you think a newer map is a 'watered down' version of a previous one?

It's true that, in order to get what TT thinks is significant new information into a new map like new roads and corrected information on older roads, it may remove some data like the curves of a road (to make it appear straighter) and some topographical info (like rivers, etc.) but functional information is at least the same or improved.

That does NOT mean that mistakes in previous maps have all been corrected; some are, some aren't.

Don't forget, a lot of this discussion may have been about the smaller versions of the map designed for machines with smaller amounts of memory.
In fact the specific TOPIC that mentions "watered-down" was about the ONE unit, to which this definitely applies.

Your map for the 740 will be the larger version.

Even TT wouldn't get away with that!! Laughing
What they sometimes do, (as I'm sure dhn meant!)is reduce the number of small straight line segments used to make up a curve, so it isn't drawn quite so smoothly on screen.

How good are the 8.25 maps?

How improved over the 8.15 are they?

Supposedly, they are the first map release to start using some of the Mapshare corrections submitted by users, so maybe there will be a lot of small improvements rather than many big ones.

And has anyone else noticed the detail on Motorway Exits slowly disappearing?

J2 of the M66 used to be J2 Heywood in v7 and v8.05 maps - since at least 8.15 (and maybe 8.10) it is now just J2 when read out and on the display. I have noticed this on other Junctions as well.

Is this the watering down you were referring to?

One would have thought that with the new Tom-Toms and the Advance Lane Guidance -- the detail may be becoming clearer..

Although not ALL junctions are covered by the ALG systems..

Has the new 825 really been updated?? will we get the estate that has been next to us for more than 6 years shown??

[it is on Google maps dated 2005 - or does that mean nothing]

There are a lot of us out here with 825 maps - give us the location (Street name, city, postcode) and we'll check for you.
