Hi All,

Am I right in thinking that the fuel price data on the live service is only updated when you connect to TT Home?

Or is it updated over the air by the TT Unit?

I wondered how often the prices are updated, as this would obviously affect their accuracy.

All replies welcome,

SDM197.

And further to my other post above, the services that are updated/ available over the air are AFAIK

Google Live Search
Weather
Mobile Safety Camera Locations (NOT the fixed camera locations though!!)
HD traffic
Live QuickGPSfix
Buddies

Fuel prices are only updates via tomtom home!

Not so!!

I get them almost daily via Home too (although they cover themselves by saying they could be several days out of date).

But they also get downloaded via the LIVE system, if you haven't already got them via Home.
You can prove it by going to "Change fuel type" on the TomTom itself. It then connects to the server and downloads the new data.

Is there any way of informing TomTom about out of date information? It's showing up a petrol station near where I work that closed ages ago!

Presumably this is a normal POI that is showing up, not the LIVE petrol prices?
If it is giving petrol prices than that would show the system up to be a farce, but if it is just a POI then you can correct that yourself using MapShare, if your map supports it.

Just go to "Map Corrections" in the main menu and on page 2 of the possible corrections is "Edit POI". You can then select one from a list and choose "Delete the POI".
alternatively you can do the same thing by tapping it on the Browse map screen, and using "Correct Location" via the blue cursor button.

LIVE fuel prices shows it cheapest here:

http://maps.google.co.uk/?q=WV11%201YD

There is a Murco service station here:

petrolprices.com shows the cheapest Murco station here:

Apologies Andy, you are correct. I've never updated it this way before, usually let 'home' do it on a daily basis!

My turn for a Embarassed ...
I asked docdoc for a location so we could all try it, but I've just realised you can't get fuel prices except for your actual locality.

Unless anyone knows better? (Maybe tinfoil to mask GPS reception and do a demo route from Wolverhampton?)

Navigate a route and update fuel prices from the device should work to see it

Not that I can see... It only gives the closest to where you actually are. There's no "along route" or "near destination" options like you get for POIs etc.

That's odd, because on mine I've got a "cheapest on route" which is the first option in the Fuel Prices screen. (v8.310)

It's got that, but if I create a route from my house to Wolverhampton (130 miles or so), I'm unlikely to get your particular petrol station in the list, so that's not going to work.....

Now, I *thought* that if I created a "demo" route instead, the Fuel Prices function wouldn't work on that route. I'm surprised to find it does!

So... If I browse the TomTom map in the area of your first link http://maps.google.co.uk/?q=WV11%201YD I can see a Murco petrol station marked some way off the road to the north (just in the green part of the map) called "Murco Service Station", but that one has the NORMAL petrol station icon, which suggests it is an ordinary POI which can be edited with Mapshare.

If I understand the system, then it is only the "premium" fuel stations that are a separate download that are used for the fuel prices, Those have an icon with a dollar sign in the corner, and there is one of those showing next to the junction with Helmsley Road (just called "MURCO")

You can't edit or alter these "premium" Fuel POIs, and I'm certainly confused by why it is producing valid price info if it isn't really there!

all I can guess, is that the info is for a station elsewhere, but it is pointing to the wrong location. As they don't give a name for it or a phone number, it's impossible to tell where it should be.

But if you can confirm there is definitely no Murco garage along that Woodend Road I can pass it onto TT.
