I have searched this forum for information on the following, unfortunately without success. I apologise if the subject has been covered elsewhere and any information regarding postings on the subject would be appreciated. I have recently downloaded 8.301 to my Tom Tom 520 and found that the navigation instructions could no longer be set using FM. I contacted TT helpdesk and was told that this facility was illegal and had been removed from the software. They would not comment on the fact that music from the Tom Tom was still allowed to be transmitted using FM. In order that I can use this facility I have restored the unit to the original factory software. I have spoken to 2 representatives at TT and they have both given me the same information.

What you have been told is correct - the EU have deemed it illegal to transmit silence for longer than 60 seconds from any FM transmitter device.

What version of maps are you currently using on the device? tap the sat strength meter followed by the version box to find out - if you map is earlier than v815 there is no point putting this new Navcore software on the device - you can roll back to 8,010 and get the FM Tx working again.

If you are using v815 maps then there is nothing you can do except write to your Euro MP complaining about this stupid change to the law, its on a par with the straight banana's rule they introduced a few years ago IMHO

As for using v8,010 software and using the FM Tx capability - whilst it might be deemed illegal you will never get caught, as this law is unenforceable it is a stupid waste of all out money introducing it - Mike
