Satmapian,

According to the instructions they are easily removable but you can't reapply them.

New one every time I am afraid.

I see that Ian, although you have to deduct the cost of one for the inner screen, as you'd want that anyway.

Being new to Satmap, I'm not sure how long the screens last. Some posts suggest they deteriorate quickly, and certainly the demos I looked at in the shops were shot to bits. Naturally it would depend on use, and I tend to take more care of my gear than average.

Still 2 Invisible shields might be a permanent solution. Maybe 3 depending on reduction in visibility of the screen. I don't want to have to turn up the brightness, and compromise battery life.

One Zagg is already increasing the strain on the cover lugs - two would be pushing your luck! Three layers of film, each with a glue layer would be optically nasty - but maybe some tired photons could get through

With the top cover off the Zagg doesn't look too bad so if an air-gap can be maintained to stop the annoying watermark that should be the best alround protection of the inner (expensive) screen. I hope that the claimed additional hardening should do the trick - so I have left it cover-off for another 24 hours and sent a photo to Zagg for their ideas too. Idea

P.S. I have improved the contact problem by making a electrical tape shim to "frame" mounting that separates the cover from the film with help keep the air-gap.

After a few more days the ripples and most of the adhesive opaque regions have improved. Zagg offered a complimentary replacement invisibleSHIELD if I pay the postage and post back the original one. I thanked them for this but declined; with the screen on the display looks fine.

The lifetime guarantee against scratches and peeling means that I can get a replacement if anything deteriorates in the future.

Anyone wanting to polish superficial scratches out of the screen protector,try rubbing gently with some toothpaste then rinsing with water.

Does the job.

A very timely solution for me.

I have used various gps units for over 10 years now and have never seen anything scratch as easily as the outer screen protector on this unit !!!

Probably something to do with it needing to be moulded with location pips on or something.

I think it touched a wooden stile support at one point and perhaps it also touched the plastic zip on my fleece.---- Scratched screen cover and its only done about 8 miles.

Anyway, out comes the toothpaste.

Yes they are very prone to scratching.I keep the SatMap in an Aquapac when out walking and even the clear plastic of the Aquapac case scratches the SatMap screen protector.

Still at least they can be replaced unlike most GPSr which would require a new screen so it's not all bad news.

So I've got my screen protector now (just the one). All I need to decide is which screen to put it on:

The outer one that scratches really easily, but is replaceable with less than perfect spares allbeit cheaply, or

the inner one that's supposed to be protected by the outer, but is expensive to replace, should grit get in.

The softness of the outer has the benefit of letting you remove scratches quite easily with T-Cut, Brasso or even toothpaste (ref. Bosun). The inner screen is also quite soft and picked up some marks from fine grit getting between the two screens.

I would recommend protecting the inner screen and then living with the outer screen by polishing out any major scratches when they bother you. A Zagg on the upper surface of both screens would also be reasonable fix.

The problem that I think sparked all this screen protector stuff of was that someone ( on this forum I think ) had got some grit between the two screens and when removing the outer screen upwards the grit had been pulled up with the protector and scratched the inner screen.I seem to recall they are £40 to replace.

For what it is worth I would stick with just a protector on the inner screen and live with polishing/replacing the outer as and when needed as Westlothian suggests.You of course may decide differently.

If you wanted you could try encasing the Sat Map in some tight Cling Film.Cheap and cheerful but worth trying.

I have used my A10 for over a year and at least once every week. The screen has some marks but nothing that troubles me. I have put a soft screen protector on the inner screen as this seemed to make sense (done after about 6 months) the outer screen appeared to come with a screen protector on it and while it now shows a few marks there are no serous problems. I am puzzled at the trouble others seem to be having.

I keep my A10 on my shoulder in the original bag it came in and refer to it regularly on walks.
