I have assigned a hardware button on my 3870 running PPC2002 to start ChechPOInt 2.02 which starts TT3.

Pressing the button TT3 takes 11 seconds to appear.

I don't have traffic installed.

Does the size of SD card and/or maps installed change the 'boot up' time I wonder?

It is dependant on if you are loading a 16MB or 100MB map. I bet many people load the whole UK map when they don't need it. Using the whole UK map mans longer loading, downloading traffic info for the whole of the UK instead of your local area at greater cost. It also seems to make the operational problems with the traffic install more likely to occur.

The 16MB maps cover a fair area with the London map covering London, Sussex, Kent, most of Essex and parts of Herfordshire, Bucks, Berks and Surrey.

Ipaq 5550 with 16MB London map (+traffic) ~7 seconds to load
Ipaq 5550 with 100MB UK map (+traffic) ~25 seconds to load

TT3 loads in 12 seconds. I'm using an iPAQ 2210, 256mb SD with 64mb UK South map, TT Traffic, plus POI files for PocketGPS speed cameras, CheckPOInt speed cameras, POIhandler.com petrol stations and McD's and BK fast food.

I was going to grumble about 12 secs but from other posts this is clearly a very good startup time. I tried overclocking the CPU to 472mhz but it made no difference except when TT calculates routes.

According to Tomtom, this is due to the software having to reference TMC codes to the map. The larger the map, the slower the startup time. Tomtom are apparently working on a fix to speed things up.

Andy.
