Thanks Mike. I'm retired so don't use TT in anger, so to speak, anymore and the POIs are personal (ie Lidl!). Think I will stick with what I have.

Cheers.

The TTN7 that is "legitimately" available is only supplied preinstalled on HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Diamond Pro phones in certain European countries (not just O2 in Germany).

I have a Touch Diamond with TTN6 and TT Home now offers me an upgrade version, which is TTN7, along with a "taster" map, which is exactly what is pre-installed on these phones. Others with the same phone/sat-nav software have reported the same.

In addition on another thread on this site it is suggested that TT have a certified version of TTN7 for download, and have a link to it. It can be found at http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=72600&highlight=. Some people on this forum have downloaded it and are successfully using it on alternative PDAs/phones.

To confuse matters more TT tell me that Home is making a mistake when it is offering me this upgrade (doesn't say much for their opinion of their own software does it?). I suggest you may also want to look at http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=72609&highlight= for more details.

With this confusion TT has once again managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory Rolling Eyes

Thanks for that, however I have decided to get a PND as it's only a matter of time before all maps for PDAs are out of date. I want something reliable not botched.

Appreciate you taking the time to reply. Smile

I have a bunch of favorites from TTN5. How would I convert these to work on TTN7? (Couldn't find stickies or a FAQ here)

Is your map version 5 or 6?

If its a 5, your prob need to save your favs as a new POI category.
Best bet is to goto Browse Map, find your Fav, then use Manage POI, Add POI, save as Location on Map for each one.

Then once using any other version, you can view these in your POI list. - and your never lose them if your settings go pear shaped!

If you use a v6 map, chances are they will carry over.

Always backup your whatevermap.cfg (v5 ) or mapsettings.cfg (v6 ) file FIRST! - found in the mapfolder.

Good luck.

Unfortunately my iPaq lost the ability to read SD cards, so I can't do that. I did back up mapsettings.cfg though (v5 maps). Have TTN7 installed, so is there any way to use my old favorites?

Finally after months of faffing, i can confirm that owners of iPAQ Hx2000 series handhelds CAN run tomtom 7.
I know there is a big furore over piracy but hey, i bought tomtom since day one and then they dumped all over me and the 1000's of other PDA owners.
All TomTom have to do is release an upgrade and myself and im sure others would buy the upgrade. I dont want a tomtom one or a GO or some other "tied into them" device. I own a perfectly useable iPQA that doubles as a GPS. A TTone or whatever wont double as as Pocket PC. So ive decided

Ive tested this on my iPAQ HX2790B

@cornz
Can you confirm that you are talking about purchasing a legal copy of TT7 and converting it to run on a device that isn't officially supported, rather than distributing a hacked & pirated version? Otherwise, I fear your post may be rather short-lived.
Out of interest, would it also work on the iPAQ rx5720?

I reflashed my iPAQ with an unnoficial ROM but my copy of tomtom is the one that was posted and hidden on the tt site for the htc diamond.
I then purchased a map.
Job done. Legally (at least as tomtom is concerned).

Jock, you should not worry too much about that. TomTom seem not to be worried as they are getting revenue from unsupported devices. If you get a working copy of TT7 on your PDA - TomTom will be quite happy to sell you the maps.

I can't remember where my TT7 came from (extracted from a Geman O2 Diamond I think) but once I had it I paid for TomTom maps on the TomTom web site and they were happy to sell them to me.

It's anyone's guess why they don't launch it officially though as I think we all agree, they would get lots more revenue from it.
